The Center’s participation this year comes within the framework of its strategy aimed at consolidating the presence of the Arabic language in the international arena, and enhancing Abu Dhabi’s position as a pivotal center for culture and creativity.
The Center presents to the European and international public a group of its projects in the fields of translation, publishing, literary awards, and organizing major cultural events, in addition to working to expand its network of strategic partnerships with leading German and international institutions in the publishing and creativity sector.
His Excellency Dr. Ali bin Tamim, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Center, said that our participation in the Frankfurt Book Fair is an extension of the process of cultural partnership through which we seek to consolidate the presence of Arab literature and thought on the global map, and to highlight the vital role of Abu Dhabi as a center for translation, publishing, and knowledge industry. He stressed the Center’s keenness, through its programs and initiatives, to build bridges of dialogue and communication with various cultures, in a way that enhances diversity and creativity. It provides renewed opportunities for creators, publishers and researchers to enrich the cultural movement at the regional and international levels.
He pointed out that the exhibition is a prestigious international platform for discussing future trends in the publishing industry, and anticipating the challenges and opportunities imposed by the rapid digital transformations, stressing that the center’s participation in this global forum embodies the vision of the UAE in supporting culture as it is an essential lever for sustainable development, opening new horizons for international cooperation, and expanding the circle of influence of the Arabic book in the global cultural scene.
The center’s program during the participation includes a group of qualitative initiatives and events, the most prominent of which is the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the “Arab Book Fair” company to launch the “Arabic Digital Library” project, which aims to make Arabic content available to the global reader and keep pace with technical developments in the publishing industry, in the presence of Jürgen Boes, Director of the Frankfurt Book Fair.
The Center is organizing an official reception at its pavilion on the opening day, to introduce its projects and initiatives in support of the publishing industry, and to review the grants and programs it provides annually within the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair, in the presence of publishers and decision makers from around the world.
Within the framework of literary activities, the Center is organizing a dialogue session entitled “Comics in the Arab World: From the Margins to the Foreground,” which addresses the development of Arab comics art, and the challenges facing its industry, such as limited publishing, scarcity of distribution, and social obstacles, in addition to opportunities for its spread through digital platforms.
The center highlights the “Kalima” project, a pioneer in the field of translation since 2007, which seeks to enhance civilizational dialogue between peoples.
On October 19, the center will host a dialogue session entitled “How do the youth of the Emirates and Germany read?” at the Frankfurt International Theater at the exhibition. It discusses the similarities and differences in the reading habits of young people in the two countries, in addition to organizing special events for the Sheikh Zayed Book Award.
