Iraq and Turkey discuss ways to enhance border security and implement bilateral agreements

Today, Tuesday, Iraq and Turkey discussed ways to implement the agreements and memorandums of understanding signed between the two countries, and coordinate efforts in a way that contributes to enhancing border security.
A statement by the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs – reported by the Iraqi news agency IA – stated that “the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Bilateral Relations, Ambassador Muhammad Hussein Bahr al-Ulum, held a A meeting was held at the Ministry’s headquarters with the Security Committee of the Joint Planning Group with Turkey,” adding that “the meeting came to follow up on the work of the technical and security committee concerned with coordinating efforts between the two sides within the framework of the Joint Permanent Committee for Security (Iraqi – Turkish), emerging from the joint strategic agreement between the two countries.” For the year 2024, with the participation of representatives from the Prime Minister’s Office, the Ministries of Interior, Defense, Immigration, and Displacement, and the Military Industrialization Authority, in addition to a number of advisors and specialized officials from the relevant departments in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.”
The statement explained that “the meeting discussed mechanisms for joint cooperation and ways to Implementing the agreements and memorandums of understanding signed between the two countries, in addition to coordinating efforts between Iraqi institutions related to the work of the committee, which contributes to enhancing border security and developing technical cooperation with the Turkish side, within the framework of bilateral agreements and joint understandings.” Ambassador Bahr Al-Ulum stressed during the meeting, “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is keen to activate joint work paths in a way that achieves the highest national interest, and contributes to unifying government efforts within the state’s vision aimed at strengthening Iraq’s relations with neighboring countries.”
