The first Russian comment on Sharaa’s request "Lion delivery"

First Deputy Chairman of the International Affairs Committee in the Russian State Duma, Dmitry Novikov, described the demand to hand over former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to the new authorities as a “strange matter,” suggesting the possibility of “revenge against him.” If Moscow agrees.

 

Earlier, Agence France-Presse reported Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharaa, who visited Moscow, will demand the extradition of his predecessor, who took refuge in Russia after his overthrow in December last year.

 

The “Linta” website reported The Russian quoted Novikov as saying that the demand for Assad’s extradition “seems strange,” recalling that “he was in the past an elected leader in accordance with Syrian legislation,” noting that “he may be subjected to liquidation if he is returned to Syria.”
