Referring an organized gang to trial on charges of kidnapping, extortion, and threatening societal peace

The State Public Prosecution referred nine defendants of Arab nationality to trial, after investigations revealed their involvement in forming an organized criminal gang, which committed a series of serious crimes that would undermine the state’s security and public order and harm its societal peace.

The details of the case go back to a report received by the Federal Public Prosecution through its “Safe Community” digital application from one of the victims, in which he reported that he had been kidnapped, indecently assaulted, and had his privacy violated by filming him handcuffed in video clips.

Based on the directives of the Public Prosecutor, the Public Prosecution began investigating and collecting evidence into the incident, and assigned the Federal Judicial Bureau to take the necessary investigative measures to quickly identify and arrest the perpetrators, while preserving the tools used to commit the crimes.

Investigations showed that the defendants lured the victim to someone’s house due to financial disputes, then beat him, handcuffed him, and detained him for a full week after coercing him to sign debt bonds, before they photographed him naked, published the clips on the social media platform, and blackmailed his family to obtain sums of money.

The car and mobile phones used to carry out the crime were also seized, inside which video clips were found proving the involvement of the defendants in the crimes charged against them, which confirms the organized and dangerous nature of the gang.

The defendants face charges punishable by death or life imprisonment, as they have been proven to have formed an organized gang whose activities would undermine state security.

His Excellency Dr. Hamad Saif Al Shamsi, Attorney General, stressed that maintaining the security and stability of the state represents a top national priority in which there is no room for complacency, stressing the Public Prosecution’s determination to continue performing its mission of protecting lives and property and enforcing the law with firmness, justice and impartiality, stressing that the Public Prosecution will not hesitate to pursue the perpetrators of crimes that affect the security of the nation or threaten its societal peace, and bring them to justice in accordance with the provisions of the law.
