The National Archives and Library participates in the annual meeting of directors of national centers in Paris

Paris, October 20 / WAM / The National Archives and the National Library participated in the fiftieth annual meeting of the directors of the National Centers for the Unified Standard Numbering System for Serials (ISSN), which was hosted by the French capital, Paris, in a step that paves the way for launching the services of the Emirates Center for the International Standard Numbering of Serials very soon, and enhancing its role in controlling intellectual production in the United Arab Emirates.
Participation aims to contribute to introducing the national cultural and knowledge production, and to enable researchers, those interested, and the general public to access the content of Emirati periodicals, in a way that achieves the desired scientific and cultural benefit.
The National Archives and the National Library also participated in the conference held on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the founding of the International Center for the Unified Standard Numbering System for Periodicals, which dealt with ways to identify periodicals and continuous sources in various physical and digital media and preserve them for future generations.
The delegation from the Archives and the National Library also participated in a number of artistic and technical workshops specialized in the activities of the International Center (ISSN), which focused on the processes of controlling periodicals at the international level, indexing them according to approved standards, and making them available through the international database (ISSN+) and related projects.
During the meetings, the delegation was briefed on a number of pioneering international projects implemented by the Center in cooperation with its partners, including the “ROAD” project for the directory of open source peer-reviewed scientific periodicals, and the “Keepers Registry” project for the permanent preservation of the digital archive of periodicals. These projects integrate with the future initiatives of the Archive and the National Library in the field of digital archiving and preservation of scientific production.
The International Center for the Unified Standard Numbering System for Periodicals granted a certificate of appreciation to the National Archives and Library, in appreciation of its effective participation and keenness to join the network of national centers for the Unified Standard Numbering System for periodicals.
The delegation took advantage of its participation by building professional relationships with various actors in the field of periodical management and continuous resources, in a way that enhances cooperation and exchange of experiences in this vital field.
On the sidelines of the participation, the delegation visited the French National Library at its main headquarters, which bears the name of President François Mitterrand, and the old historical headquarters in Richelieu in Paris, where it learned about global experiences and expertise in preserving and managing documentary heritage.
