Italy resorts to artificial intelligence to protect its museums after the Louvre robbery

Rome, October 20 / WAM / Italy announced, on Monday, the development of advanced security systems based on artificial intelligence to protect its cultural heritage, in response to the security controversy raised by the theft of priceless jewelry from the Louvre Museum in Paris on Sunday.
The Italian Ministry of Culture confirmed that the security of cultural heritage has become a top priority, revealing two pilot projects with European funding of more than 70 million euros.
According to the ministry, the new initiatives will use intelligent video analytics and algorithms capable of monitoring “unusual behaviors and suspicious movements” around artifacts, and issue predictive alerts to enhance prevention and surveillance, while fully adhering to confidentiality rules.
