The Council of Muslim Elders rejects two Israeli draft laws to impose sovereignty over the West Bank

The Muslim Council of Elders, headed by His Eminence the Grand Imam Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, strongly condemned the Israeli Knesset’s approval, in preliminary reading, of two draft laws aimed at imposing the Israeli occupation’s sovereignty over the occupied West Bank and legitimizing control over one of the settlements.

 

The Muslim Council of Elders affirmed – in a statement today, Friday – its categorical rejection of such matters. Provocative practices that aim to change the legal and historical situation in the occupied Palestinian territory, and represent a dangerous escalation and a flagrant violation of international legitimacy resolutions, and an undermining of efforts aimed at achieving just and comprehensive peace in the region.

The Council of Muslim Elders renewed its call on the international community to assume its legal and moral responsibilities and confront the Israeli occupation’s repeated attempts to annex the West Bank and liquidate the West Bank. The Palestinian issue, stressing that recognizing the right of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital is the only way to achieve lasting security and peace in the region.
