"Top priority"Japan clarifies the nature of its alliance with America

She said in a phone call, said that strengthening the alliance between their countries is "Top priority"
The call between Takaishi and Trump comes days before the US President visits Tokyo as part of a regional tour, which is the first between them since Takaishi took office earlier this week, according to media outlets.

She told reporters: "We agreed to work to improve to new levels"
She added: "I informed him that strengthening the Japan-United States alliance is my administration’s top priority at both the diplomatic and security levels"
She continued that she found Trump: "A lively and fun person"and wrote on the X platform that their conversation was "Good and honest"
Trump’s visit to Japan
Trump is scheduled to visit Japan starting Monday before holding crucial trade talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping in South Korea.
The US President wants Japan and other allied countries to boost their military spending.
In her first political speech, she said Takaishi said 2% of GDP will be spent on defense in the current fiscal year, achieving what was the government’s goal two years ago.
