Omani Salem Al Hajri "Photographer of the year" For the Hamdan bin Mohammed Award in its 14th session

Dubai, October 28 / WAM / The General Secretariat of the Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award “HIPA” announced the winners of the special awards for its fourteenth session, which was titled “Power” and witnessed the honoring of three international photographers who made outstanding contributions in the fields of creative, humanitarian and environmental photography.
Omani photographer Salem Sultan Al Hajri won the “Photographer of the Year” award from HIPAA in recognition of his visual projects that embody the Omani and Arab cultural and heritage identity and link authentic traditions with visions of the present in an innovative artistic style, in addition to his efforts to support and develop photographic talent in the Sultanate of Oman and the Gulf region.
The award was won by the famous American photographer Rick Smolan, in recognition of his rich career in the world of photography and his innovative storytelling that dealt with poignant humanitarian and social issues.
The Photography Content Creator Award was won by American photographer and director Mark Smith, who is considered one of the most prominent wildlife photographers specializing in bird photography and whose works are among the most viewed visual materials globally.
His Excellency Ali Khalifa bin Thalith, Secretary-General of the Award, expressed his pride in honoring an elite group of photographers who have made contemporary photographic contributions that shed light on issues of the environment, humanity and society. He said: “These creators embody the award’s message inspired by the thought of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, patron of the award in supporting the arts and encouraging cultural and cognitive creativity.”
Ibn Thalith added that preparations are underway to hold the closing ceremony of the fourteenth session of the award at the Museum of the Future in Dubai on November 11, which will witness honoring the winners in all categories in an event he described as the “Oscar of the Photo” that the photographer community around the world awaits annually.
