The giant moon will appear in the UAE sky next November 5. It does not cause unusual effects

Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Astronomical Society, Ibrahim Al-Jarwan, stated that the UAE and the world in general are scheduled to witness what is known as the “supermoon” or “perigee full moon” on the night of November 5, 2025. It will be the largest and brightest full moon of the year, so that the full moon will be in the “perigee” position that night, at a distance of approximately 356,980 km, which is the closest position of the moon to the Earth during the year 2025.
He said that the moon alternates in passing between the closest location to Earth, “perigee,” at approximately 356,000 km, and the farthest location to Earth, “aphelion,” at approximately 406,000 km, every approximately two weeks. Approaching less than 370,000 km from Earth may coincide with the phase of the full moon, so it is called, “full perigee” or “giant moon.”
He added that comparing “the full moon at perigee” with “the full moon at apogee”, the moon will be approximately 13% closer to the Earth, and the giant moon will appear 14% larger in size and 30% brighter than the normal full moon, and it can be seen with the naked eye, and the moon’s gravitational forces exceed the gravitational forces by 30%, and this increase is slight in relation to the Earth.
Al-Jarwan confirmed that this phenomenon does not cause any tangible unusual effects, but rather the natural effects associated with the full moon, such as high sea tides, midnight and midday.
