He did not achieve any victory.. Wolverhampton dismisses Portuguese coach Pereira

Wolverhampton sacked its Portuguese coach Vitor Pereira on Sunday after failing to win any of its first ten matches in the English Premier League.
Pereira signed a new three-year contract last September after leading the team to safety last season.
However, picking up just two points so far this season has put the club’s eight-year Premier League stay in serious jeopardy.
The club said in a statement the day after the harsh 0-3 loss to Fulham, which put it eight points away from safety in last place: “Wolverhampton has parted ways with its coach, Vitor Pereira, after a disappointing start to the 2025/2026 season.”
He added, “Upon his arrival at Molineux last December, Pereira and his assistants left their mark immediately upon their arrival, leading the team to a successful second half of the English Premier League.”
He continued, “However, the results and performance this season fell below acceptable levels, and as a result, it was necessary to make a change in leadership,” without revealing the name of the Portuguese coach’s successor.
He explained that pending his appointment, the team will be managed by the two youth team coaches (U-21 and U-18).
Wolverhampton finished last season in sixteenth place, but lost the services of its legendary Brazilian striker Matheus Cunha to Manchester United, and the Algerian full-backs Rayan Ait Nouri and the Portuguese Nelson Semedo in the summer transfer period to Manchester City and Fenerbahce in Turkey, respectively.
Fans’ dissatisfaction with the Chinese company Fosun, the club’s owner, has been growing for some time, due to what they saw as a lack of investment in the team.
Pereira was popular with fans in his first months in charge, and he often celebrated victories with fans in bars near Molineux Stadium.
But this relationship became strained this season, and the team was forced to remove him from an angry confrontation with the fans following the team’s 3-2 defeat to its guest Burnley last weekend.
“Unfortunately, the start of this season was disappointing, and despite our strong desire to give the coach the time and games necessary to improve his performance, we have reached a stage that requires us to make a change,” said Chinese CEO of Wolverhampton Club Jeff Shi.
Pereira, 57 years old, was appointed less than a year ago, succeeding Gary O’Neill, who was sacked due to poor results. The former Porto and Fenerbahce coach succeeded in turning Wolverhampton’s situation upside down, and finished last season in sixteenth place (out of 20). He then extended his contract for three years.
Wolverhampton, who are currently suffering a four-match losing streak, travel to London next Saturday to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
