" Emirates Intellectual Property" and"JETRO" They organize training on trademark protection

DUBAI, 3rd November / WAM / The Emirates Intellectual Property Association, in cooperation with the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), the Japanese Patent Office (JPO) and the International Intellectual Property Protection Forum (IIPPF), organized a training program on trademark recognition for the year 2025, at the American University in the Emirates. This training comes as part of the Japanese delegation’s official visit to the UAE, with the aim of strengthening the capabilities of the authorities concerned with enforcing intellectual property rights and combating counterfeiting and piracy operations, by enabling participants to distinguish original products from counterfeit ones and exchanging best international practices in this field. The program targeted law enforcement officers and representatives of regulatory authorities from the police, customs and economic departments in the country, to enhance their efficiency in protecting intellectual property rights and to support national efforts in combating counterfeit goods. Dr. Tariq Abdel Salam, Dean of the College of Law at the American University in the Emirates, delivered a welcome speech on behalf of Dr. Muthanna Abdel Razzaq, President of the University, and Mrs. Hoda Barakat, Member of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Intellectual Property Association, also delivered a speech at the opening. Dr. Qusay Al-Falahi and Ms. Kaori Hirota from the Japanese Patent Office participated in the opening session. The training included presentations from Japanese experts on best practices in protecting trademarks and combating counterfeit products by applying effective methodologies in identifying authentic trademarks. The program concluded with a speech delivered by Mr. Yoshifumi Kusumoto from the Japanese Patent Office, in which he stressed the importance of international cooperation in developing the capabilities of entities concerned with enforcing intellectual property rights, praising the role of the UAE in supporting innovation and protecting the national economy from the risks associated with counterfeit goods. The participants expressed their appreciation for this program, noting that the exchange of experiences between Japanese entities and their counterparts in the UAE enhances the efficiency of field work and contributes to protecting local markets and supporting innovation and sustainable economic growth.
