"Emirates Writers Union" Participates in a cultural program and new publications "Sharjah Book"

Abu Dhabi, 4 November / WAM / The Emirates Writers and Writers Union is participating in the 44th session of the Sharjah International Book Fair 2025, which is being held at the Sharjah Expo Center and organized by the Sharjah Book Authority, during the period from 5 to 16 November, with a diverse cultural program that reflects the richness of the Emirati and Arab literary scene, and celebrates the word and creativity in its various forms.

The Union’s program includes 12 events that combine critical seminars, dialogue sessions, poetry evenings, and open platforms for youth, with the participation of an elite group of writers, writers, media figures, and creative people from the UAE and Arab countries.

The Union’s activities will begin tomorrow with a session entitled “The Impact of Place on Man and the Formation of the Characteristics of Society in the Emirati Novel” with the participation of Ali Abu Al-Rish, Nadia Al-Najjar, and Dr. Hind Al-Saadi, followed the next day by a musical poetry evening entitled “Water Poetry” that brings together a number of Emirati and Arab poetic voices, in which Abdullah Al-Sabab, Najat Al-Dhaheri, Yasser Dahi, and Sheikha Bin Khamis participate, accompanied by the musician Sumaya Bu Khashm.

The activities continue to address various topics, including “Arabic and its linguistic family from sacred texts to literature,” with the participation of Dr. Maryam Bishek, Dr. Muhammad Tamam Al-Ayoubi, and Fatima Karmastji, in addition to a dialogue session entitled “Emirati theater is mirrors of reality on stage,” with the participation of Marai Al-Halyan, Muhammad Sayed Ahmed, and Yasser Al-Neyadi.

The Union is holding a session, “The Shift of Criticism from the Story to the Novel – Highlights on the Winning Stories of the Ghanem Ghobash Prize 2025,” with the participation of Dr. Abdul-Daem Al-Salami, Abeer Ahmed Al-Harithi, and Ahmed Lootah, in addition to the session “Literary Vanguards in Our Academic Institutions,” with the participation of Yousef Muhammad, Fatima Muhammad, and Wadha Al-Blouki, where participants review their experiences in literary writing between children’s literature and horror and crime literature.

It is also organizing an evening, “With the Literary Vanguards,” with the participation of students from the Literature Club at Mohammed Bin Zayed University, including Jassim Al Zaabi, Hussein Al Sharif, Fatima Al Siri and Dana Fouad, to allow the evening for university students to present their texts and interact with the audience.

The Union also sheds light on contemporary issues in literature and technology through a session entitled “Literature and the Recipient between Artificial Intelligence and Digital Platforms,” with the participation of Sultan Al Suwaidi, Maitha Muhammad, and Aisha Ibrahim, as well as activities that showcase distinct poetic and narrative experiences such as “Creative Testimonies of Poets between Self-Question and Critical Monitoring” and a critical reading of the short story collection “The Pigeon Lamp” by writer Latifa Al Hajj.

During its participation in the exhibition this year, the Union is presenting a group of new publications in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture as part of a series of joint cultural publications, which include the book “Beyond Meaning” by Sheikha Dr. Shamma Muhammad Khalid Al Nahyan, the book “Sultan Bin Muhammad Al Qasimi Theater: An Artistic Vision and Semantic Dimensions” by Dr. Haitham Al Khawaja, the book “Intertextuality in Contemporary Poetry in the Emirates” “Second Edition – Corrected,” and the book “Future Cities…Dubai Entering the Dream” by Dr. Hamid Yahya. Hussein, in addition to the novel “One Blood” by Dhaen Shaheen.

Recent publications also include the book “Theater in the Emirates between Idea and Spectacle, Critical Readings and Reviews” by the writer Dhafer Jalloud, a book titled “The Five Dimensions: Reflections on Contemporary Visual Art” by the writer Hoda Saeed Al-Dhahouri, and the book “Flashes of Emirati Theater: Seeing Reality and the Dream” by Dr. Haitham Al-Khawaja, in addition to a special edition of the works that won the Ghanem Ghobash Award for the current year.

Maryam Al Zarouni, a member of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Writers and Authors Union and the Union’s cultural official, said that the Union’s participation in the Sharjah International Book Fair; It enhances national cultural identity and gives the voices of writers an international platform for intellectual exchange.
