250 participants in the National Digital Heritage Forum in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi, 4 November / WAM / The activities of the Digital Heritage Forum, organized by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, began yesterday. It continues for three days at the Cultural Foundation, and discusses the role of technology in reshaping the landscape for protecting, preserving and documenting the national cultural heritage.

The closed forum activities bring together 250 participants, including 132 international speakers and 128 representatives of world-leading institutions, in addition to an elite group of global leaders, innovators and influencers specialized in digital documentation of heritage, cultural preservation techniques, and innovation.

The Forum constitutes a unique platform for experts from various disciplines of digital documentation, digital humanities, cultural heritage and technology, to communicate, collaborate and expand the horizons of their knowledge beyond their individual fields. It enhances Abu Dhabi’s pioneering role in this field and reflects its position as a cultural capital that balances heritage protection and innovation.

The forum highlights Abu Dhabi’s firm commitment to enhancing dialogue between the heritage and technology sectors, with the aim of bridging current gaps, opening pivotal discussions, and building new partnerships, tools and approaches in innovative ways that will protect cultural heritage in the digital age at the global level.

His Excellency Saud Abdulaziz Al Hosani, Undersecretary of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, said that the launch of the Digital Heritage Forum represents an important step in our journey to preserve and enhance cultural heritage. He added that Abu Dhabi stands at a unique crossroads where authentic cultural heritage meets the capabilities of modern digital innovation, and we will continue our firm commitment to preserving our cultural heritage, while adopting tools that contribute to its preservation to ensure its sustainability for future generations.

He added, “Through this forum, we seek to enhance global dialogue, encourage cooperation, and provide future generations with the necessary knowledge, skills, and means to protect their heritage, thus ensuring that our cultural identity remains vibrant as a fundamental pillar of sustainable development.”

Over the course of 3 days, the forum will witness a group of rich keynote speeches, a series of dialogue sessions, and innovative technical presentations. Its program includes five main lectures presented by a group of pioneers and prominent figures who share their valuable experiences and review the most prominent modern trends in the field of digitizing cultural heritage.

In addition to panel discussions, brief lectures, highlighting case studies, and live performances, the sessions address five main themes, providing participants with various practical opportunities for learning and knowledge exchange.

In addition to its main programme, the Forum presents a series of special events that exemplify how technology can reshape the ways we interact with culture.

Among these events is the “Virtual Reality Experience” “Gaudi, The Atelier of the Divine,” which transports the audience through a virtual journey into the creative world of architect Antoni Gaudí.

Visitors will have the opportunity to experience “Voices of Freedom,” an interactive exhibition accompanied by a podcast that explores cultural heritage through sound and storytelling.

The forum is expected to contribute to developing a set of practical recommendations directed to specialists and relevant institutions around the world, covering various aspects of digital heritage, promoting a culture of teamwork and exchanging experiences, in addition to developing innovative tools and implementing projects with an effective impact.

This event contributes to strengthening Abu Dhabi’s position as a global leader in the field of research and practical application within the field of digitization in preserving the national cultural heritage.
