Beckham gets the title of “Sir” in England… “the proudest moment” in his life (video)

Former England football star David Beckham described receiving the title of knight “Sir” from King Charles III at Windsor Palace as “the proudest moment” of his life.
The 50-year-old, who defended his country’s national team 115 times and played for the Spanish giants Manchester United and Real Madrid, in addition to France’s Paris Saint-Germain and Italy’s Milan, was awarded the title of knight in appreciation for his sports and charitable services.
Beckham said it was a “wonderful moment” for a boy from east London to be “here at Windsor Palace, to be honored by His Majesty the King, the most important and respected institution in the world,” adding to the British Press Association, “This is without a doubt the proudest moment for me.”
Beckham, known for his elegance, wore a gray suit designed by his wife, Victoria, the pop star turned fashion designer, who accompanied him to the ceremony at Windsor Palace, west of London, accompanied by his parents, Ted and Sandra.

Beckham has been called “Sir David” since the honor was announced in June, while Victoria, a former Spice Girls member, has been called “Lady Beckham”.
When asked if he had the opportunity to speak with King Charles during the ceremony, Beckham said that he was “very impressed with my suit,” adding, “He is one of the most elegant men I know, so he has inspired me in many of my looks over the years, and he certainly inspired me in this look.”
Beckham, who retired from playing in 2013, continued, “I looked at old pictures of him when he was young, wearing a morning suit, and I said to myself: This is what I want to wear, so I gave them (the pictures) to my wife, and she (designed them).”
Beckham considered this honor very special to him because “I have always been a huge fan of the monarchy,” adding, “I have been very lucky in my career to win what I have won and achieve what I have achieved, but obtaining an honor like this, a knighthood, is beyond anything I ever imagined.”
His knighthood represents the culmination of years of tireless efforts beyond football that have transformed him into a global icon at the intersection of sports, fashion and business.
It was believed that he was about to receive a knighthood after helping London win the bid to host the 2012 Summer Olympics, but the British authorities put a veto on his candidacy due to his name being mentioned in a tax evasion case before he was later acquitted.
Other sports figures have won this title, such as Beckham’s former coach at Manchester United, Scottish Alex Ferguson, and Scottish tennis star Andy Murray.
Beckham currently heads the American club Inter Miami, where he also has a large stake in its ownership. He is also the co-owner of Salford City FC, which plays in the fourth division in England.
Last May, Time magazine included Beckham among the 100 most influential people in the field of philanthropy.
Even at the peak of his football career, Beckham was thinking about building a global brand after his retirement. His eccentric fashions and hairstyles captured the attention of the British tabloids.
He also succeeded in overcoming the stage of being described as “the most hated man” in Britain, after he was sent off in an elimination match within the 1998 World Cup against Argentina.
