Zelensky rejects the idea of partial membership in the European Union

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that his country “must join the European Union as a full member without any restrictions or exceptions.”
Zelensky’s statements came during his speech at the European Union summit, held online in Brussels, as reported by the Ukrainian news agency Ukrain Forum.
In response to a question about whether Ukraine might agree to partial or interim membership to accelerate accession and bypass /Hungarian veto, Zelensky said: "No, how can that be understood?" “It is very important that Ukraine is treated as an equal country among its equals.” The Ukrainian president added: “If we talk about membership in the European Union, it must be full membership… It is necessary for countries with equal rights to sit at the same table, regardless of their size or population.”
Zelensky stressed that joining the European Union must be based on common values among member states. This comes in the wake of the European Commission’s announcement, on Tuesday, of the annual expansion package that evaluates the progress made by Ukraine and other candidate countries to join the European Union during Last year.
