"Bruges" Launches the first low-density polyethylene product made in the UAE for the healthcare sector

ABU DHABI, 5 November / WAM / Borouge PLC, one of the leading petrochemical companies in providing innovative and diversified polyolefin solutions, today announced the launch of the first low-density polyethylene product intended for use in the health sector to be manufactured in the UAE, during its participation in the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC) 2025.

This achievement follows Borouge’s success in launching the first polypropylene healthcare product this year.

The Bormed™ product, model LE6607-PH, manufactured at the Borouge facility in the Ruwais region, represents an important achievement that contributes to strengthening regional medical supply chains and enabling local production of basic and sterile pharmaceutical packaging supplies.

This achievement confirms Borouge’s commitment to promoting industrial self-sufficiency and supporting the “Make in the UAE” initiative, the national program aimed at driving industrial growth efforts and diversifying the economy. It will also contribute to improving the flexibility of the healthcare supply chain in the UAE, and expanding Borouge’s influence in various sectors that create additional value throughout the Middle East, Asia and Africa.

Hazim Sultan Al Suwaidi, CEO of Borouge, said that this achievement consolidates Borouge’s leading position in the petrochemicals sector as the first company to produce polyethylene intended for healthcare in the UAE.

He added that the product provides the company’s customers throughout the region with faster and safer access to essential medical materials, and the focus continues on expanding the company’s product portfolio in the field of health care by offering a locally manufactured polymer that meets global standards. In addition to supporting the manufacturing of medicines and products related to direct patient care, this strategic step contributes to strengthening the commitment to innovation and regional growth.

Leveraging Borealis’ Bormed™ technology and long-standing experience in the healthcare industry, Bormed™ LE6607-PH is an additive-free, low-density polyethylene compound designed for pharmaceutical and medical packaging applications, including Blow-Fill-Seal bottles, ampoules, and other types of packaging solutions. And packaging used in the pharmaceutical industries. The product is characterized by a high degree of purity and stability, which reduces the level of leakage in the final products, and ensures compliance with international aseptic processing standards. This product also meets the strict specifications of European and American pharmaceutical standards.

It is noteworthy that manufacturing this compound in the UAE contributes to supporting the flexibility of the supply chain and its proximity to major markets, in addition to maintaining consistent quality standards and reliable supply continuity, while these advantages help healthcare providers and manufacturers of their products to better manage risks, shorten delivery periods, and ensure patient safety.

This product complements the company’s great success when it launched the “Bormed™” model “RG868MO” earlier this year, as the first locally manufactured healthcare products, which expands the company’s product portfolio.

These products enhance Borouge’s role as a key player in strategic support for medical innovation and enhancing national industrial capabilities.

This locally produced polymer contributes to providing safer and more flexible health care for patients, supports industrial diversification, and enhances the UAE’s position as a center for high-quality medical manufacturing.
