Trump announces a complete boycott of the G20 summit in South Africa

US President Donald Trump announced that no American official will attend the G20 summit to be held in South Africa, repeating his statements about the white minority being systematically “killed and slaughtered” in this African country.

Trump announced in September that Vice President Jay DeVance would represent him at this summit, before he returned and announced a complete boycott of it.

“It is absolutely shameful that the G20 summit is being held in South Africa,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.

He added, “No American government official will attend as long as these human rights violations continue.”

Trump said that Afrikaners, or the white minority descendants of the first European settlers in South Africa, “are being killed and slaughtered and their lands and farms are illegally confiscated.”

For its part, the South African Ministry of Foreign Affairs described Trump’s statements as “unfortunate,” adding that it looked forward to hosting a “successful” summit that will be held on November 22 and 23.

The ministry said in a statement, “Describing Afrikaners as a purely white group is unhistorical. Moreover, the claim that this group faces persecution is unfounded.”

South Africa chose “solidarity, equality and sustainability” as the theme for its G20 presidency, but it faced some opposition, especially from the United States, which is the richest member of the group.

“South Africa remains focused on its positive contributions at the global level,” the Foreign Ministry said.

“Based on our own journey from racial and ethnic segregation to democracy, our nation is uniquely positioned to champion a future of true solidarity within the G20,” she added.

Trump has attacked South Africa on several issues since his return to the White House in January, most notably his statements about “white genocide” taking place in the country.
