A strong earthquake hits the northern coast of Japan and a tsunami warning is issued

The Japanese Meteorological Agency announced that a strong earthquake struck the northern coast of the country, and issued a tsunami warning.

The authority added that the earthquake, whose initial magnitude was 6.7 on the Richter scale, occurred off the coast of Iwate Prefecture, at a depth of 10 kilometers below sea level.

The authority issued a warning of the possibility of tsunami waves reaching a height of one meter, along the northern coastal region.
