De Montfort University opens its new campus at Dubai Knowledge Park

Dubai, November 10, 2017 – De Montfort University officially opened its new campus in the Dubai Knowledge Park, in a step aimed at strengthening its position and expanding its global presence, and consolidating Dubai’s position as a leading educational destination that attracts prestigious academic institutions from around the world.

The opening ceremony was attended by Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice of York, who participated in a dialogue on the role of artificial intelligence in education, which reflects the university’s increasing focus on digital innovation and the adoption of modern technologies in the educational process, praising the educational environment that she saw that stimulates creativity.

The ceremony was attended by His Excellency Aisha Abdullah Miran, Director General of the Knowledge and Human Development Authority in Dubai, His Excellency Edward Hobart, Ambassador of the United Kingdom to the UAE, Abdullah Belhoul, CEO of TECOM Group, Ammar Al-Malik, Executive Vice President of the Commercial Sector, and Professor Katie Normington, Vice-Chancellor of De Montfort University in Leicester.

The new campus includes integrated facilities, including a financial trading room that simulates real markets, a cybersecurity laboratory to train students in the latest digital defense technologies, in addition to a courtroom for mock trials, psychology and engineering laboratories, and advanced design and creativity studios.

Professor Katie Normington said that the opening of the new campus represents an important milestone in the university’s journey towards enabling students to acquire the skills and knowledge that qualify them for success in the sectors of the future, stressing the university’s endeavor to prepare graduates capable of contributing to building a prosperous future through innovative education and practical practice.

For his part, Abdullah Belhoul stressed that investing in the development of future talent is a shared responsibility that requires concerted efforts, pointing out that the Dubai Knowledge Park and Dubai International Academic City, affiliated with the TECOM Group, include more than 33,500 students from around the world, and continue to attract the finest international universities in support of the Dubai Economic Agenda D33 and the Education Strategy 2033, thus enhancing Dubai’s position as a global center for education and knowledge.
