Egyptian Ahmed Adly is crowned cup champion "Loyalty to Zayed" For chess 2026

Dubai, February 23 / WAM / Egyptian international grandmaster Ahmed Adly maintained the title of the 22nd edition of the Loyalty to Zayed Chess Championship for the year 2026, which concluded yesterday at the Dubai Chess and Culture Club, with the participation of 170 male and female players representing 23 countries, following the conclusion of the ninth round.
The tournament witnessed the participation of 7 international grandmasters, led by American Vladimir Akopyan, challenger for the world champion in 2000, along with reigning youth world champion Ahmed Adly, Moldova’s Viorel Disco, Spain’s Walter Arencibia, and three grandmasters from Iran: Dashivar Bardia, Ashgar Goldsha, and Darini Boria, in addition to a number of international masters and International Federation professors.
Adly, the holder of the 2025 edition title, won the title after raising his score to 8 points following his victory in the final round over Iranian Ashghar Goldsha, confirming his superiority and maintaining the top spot in the standings.
Iranian Dashivar Bardia came in second place with 7.5 points, equal to Filipino Oliver Carmanig, while Akopyan came fourth with 7 points.
In the special awards, International Federation Professor Abdul Rahman Mohammed Al Taher won the Best Emirati Player Award, while International Federation Professor Wafiyah Darwish Al Mamari won the Best Emirati Player Award.
At the U-14 level for Emiratis, Khaled Mohammed and Alia Saud Marzouq topped the rankings, followed by Dhiyab Al Harmoudi and Shama Obaid Al Marri.
