Under the patronage of Mohammed bin Rashid.. Conference "ICOM Dubai 2025" It launches tomorrow

Dubai, 11 November / WAM / Today, the organizing committee of the ICOM Dubai 2025 conference revealed the details of the 27th General Conference of the International Council of Museums, which begins tomorrow (Wednesday) under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, “may God protect him.” Dubai is hosting it for the first time in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia region, which enhances the emirate’s leadership and presence on the global map, and highlights its position. An international center for intellectual communication and cultural exchange, it also reflects the importance of the region, its influence, and its ability to enrich the global cultural movement.

The international conference, which is considered the largest global gathering of specialists in the museum sector, will witness the attendance of more than 4,500 participants from museum experts and cultural and thought leaders from around the world, with the aim of exchanging visions, knowledge and ideas about “the future of museums in rapidly changing societies”. It will also discuss museum policies and ways to enable them to confront the accelerating demographic, technological and environmental challenges that contemporary societies are witnessing, by exploring innovative solutions and methods that contribute to enhancing the presence of museums and highlighting their responsibilities towards societies, heritage and common values, in a way that reflects the diversity Cultural identities and their richness.

Through its rich program, the event will present a group of important discussions on its three sub-themes: the power of youth, intangible heritage, and modern technologies, within a combination of keynote speeches, dialogue sessions, and workshops, through which “ICOM Dubai 2025” seeks to reshape the museum experience as vibrant educational and creative centers and interactive spaces for the community.

The event’s agenda will include more than 10 keynote speeches by an elite group of cultural figures, experts and specialists in the sector, in addition to the participation of more than 400 speakers sharing their experiences and visions. The scientific program of the conference also includes holding more than 100 discussion and dialogue sessions that review the most prominent challenges and opportunities in the museum sector, the most prominent of which is the session “Artificial Intelligence and Museums: From Vision to Global Action Dialogue” in which Media S participates. Ekner, Director-General of the International Council of Museums, and Christa Pikat, Director of the Department of Culture and Emergencies – Culture Sector at UNESCO, in addition to the session “Challenging the Ordinary: Remaking Museums Again” moderated by Dr. Peter Magee, Director of the Zayed National Museum, with the participation of Mona Khaznadar, Advisor – Ministry of Culture of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Dr. Christian Greco, Director of the Egyptian Museum (Museo Egizio) – Italy, and Mulenga Capoibo, writer and social activist – Museum Women’s History – Zambia, and Gayane Omerova, Executive Director of the Arts and Culture Development Foundation of the Ministry of Culture – Uzbekistan.

The “Nature as Partner: The Power of Restoration” forum, moderated by Marjan Faraidouni, Head of Education and Culture at Expo City Dubai, will include architect Adeeb Dada, environmental regeneration consultant and founder of The Other Dada – Lebanon, Nupur Pruthi, senior climate expert at ICLEI – Sweden, and Dr. Debra A. Reed, Curator of the Department of Agriculture and Environment and Secretary of the Sustainability Committee (ICOM-SUSTAIN) at the Henry Ford Museum – USA.

ICOM Dubai 2025 will host a round table dedicated to reviewing the ICOM Code of Ethics, a session dedicated to reviewing ICOM’s efforts in protecting cultural heritage and combating illicit trafficking, and the ICOM Sustainability Award ceremony, which is the first global award that celebrates innovative initiatives and exemplary practices in support of sustainable development in the museum sector. In addition to holding a series of international committee meetings that reflect the diversity of the ICOM network and its specializations, including the fields of conservation, education, artistic management and digital innovation.

During the conference, the new President of the International Council of Museums and members of its Executive Board will be announced, in addition to the official announcement of the city hosting the ICOM 2028 conference and the handing over of the ICOM banner during a special ceremony held during the closing ceremony.

On the other hand, the international conference will include announcing the outcomes of the 40th General Assembly meeting of the International Council of Museums (ICOM), in addition to holding a series of interactive workshops and advanced training courses that will give participants the opportunity to explore new concepts in the museum sector and its role in the era of global digital transformation. These workshops will also focus on developing implementable strategies to build a sustainable future for museums and the communities they serve. The event will also include the organization of the “Museum Exhibition”, which will showcase, through more than 100 pavilions, the latest innovations in the field of museums, and highlight creative solutions, opportunities for cooperation and building partnerships, which enhances Dubai’s position as a global center for culture and innovation.

Hala Badri, Director-General of the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, and Chair of the Organizing Committee of ICOM Dubai 2025, stressed that the conference constitutes a pivotal station in the journey of the global museum community, and an inspiring international platform that brings together thought and cultural leaders and museum experts to participate in shaping the future of the sector. She pointed out that Dubai’s hosting of this exceptional event represents an acknowledgment of the region’s status and its growing role in promoting global cultural dialogue, and highlights its efforts and the pioneering steps it has achieved in building bridges of communication between cultures and activating the global creative movement.

She pointed out that Dubai seeks, through its various strategies and initiatives, to redefine the concept of museums and the cultural experiences they contain, and to create an environment that enables future generations to innovate models and solutions that enhance the strength and presence of museums as one of the pillars of the cultural and creative industries.
