Sharjah is guest of honor at the Warsaw International Book Fair 2026

Sharjah, November 13, 2017 – The Polish capital, Warsaw, celebrates Emirati and Arab culture by choosing the Emirate of Sharjah as the guest of honor at its 2026 International Book Fair, which will be held from May 28 to 31, in recognition of the emirate’s cultural status and its global project in supporting the knowledge industry and building bridges of human communication and civilizational dialogue between peoples and cultures.

The announcement of the hosting came during the activities of the 44th session of the Sharjah International Book Fair, following the signing of a cooperation agreement between the Sharjah Book Authority and the History and Culture Foundation, which organizes the Warsaw International Book Fair, in the presence of His Excellency Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri, CEO of the Sharjah Book Authority.

The agreement was signed by Khawla Al-Mujaini, Director of Events and Marketing Department at the Authority, and Jacek Orel, Director of the Warsaw International Book Fair and Vice President of the History and Culture Foundation.

Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of the Sharjah Book Authority, said that choosing Sharjah as a guest of honor for the Warsaw International Book Fair is a new confirmation of its position as a global capital of books and knowledge and an effective and influential cultural center that plays a role in connecting the East with the West through speech, thought and creativity. At the same time, it is the culmination of a new stage of achievements in the process of advancing knowledge led by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler. Sharjah to make Arab culture present and active in the global humanitarian scene and a platform for constructive dialogue between civilizations. Through its participation in the Warsaw Exhibition, Sharjah continues to fulfill its mission of transferring Arab culture to new spaces and introducing readers and publishers around the world to the richness of Arab intellectual production and the diversity of its experiences, and consolidating its presence in the fields of thought and creativity as an authentic contributor to building human knowledge.

For his part, His Excellency Ahmed bin Rakad Al Ameri said that choosing Sharjah as the guest of honor of the Warsaw International Book Fair comes in appreciation of the inspiring vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, who made books and knowledge two means of enhancing human communication. Therefore, the Sharjah Book Authority will work to prepare an integrated program during the next participation that highlights the cultural experience of the emirate and enhances the presence of Emirati and Arab creativity in the European scene through a series of events, sessions and dialogues that bring together writers. Publishers and translators, and we always look forward, under the guidance of Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, to expanding the scope of international cooperation in the book industry and confirming Sharjah’s position as a global center for culture, publishing and civilizational dialogue.

For his part, Jacek Orel said that cooperation between Poland and the United Arab Emirates in recent years has gained a new and inspiring dimension, and Sharjah’s presence in the Warsaw Exhibition will constitute an impetus for establishing permanent relations between writers, publishers, agents and readers from the two countries.

He added that this literary event will contribute to bringing our cultures and societies closer together, to be a symbolic bridge that brings together writers, publishers, and readers, and will launch many valuable initiatives that will give us a deeper understanding of the rich culture and heritage of the United Arab Emirates and the creative energy that characterizes Sharjah. We are looking forward with interest to learning about the traditions and hearing the stories that Sharjah will bring to Warsaw.

As part of its participation as a guest of honor at the Warsaw Fair, the Sharjah Book Authority will prepare an integrated cultural program that highlights the rich intellectual and creative experience of the emirate and enhances the presence of Emirati and Arab creativity in the European arena.

The program includes a series of seminars, dialogue sessions, literary readings, workshops and artistic performances that bring together writers, thinkers, publishers and translators from the Arab and Polish sides, in addition to activities that highlight the Emirati and Arab heritage and its contributions to the global cultural scene.
