Kennedy’s grandson announces his candidacy for the US House of Representatives to succeed a veteran representative

Jack Schlossberg, grandson of former US President John Kennedy, announced that he will run for the US House of Representatives next year, stressing that he is seeking to obtain an important seat in New York to succeed veteran Democratic Representative Jerry Nadler, who held this seat for a long time.
“This district must have a representative who is able to harness the creativity, energy and drive of the local community and translate them into political power in Washington,” Schlossberg, 33, said in a recent campaign video he posted on social media.
Schlossberg has expressed his political ambitions several times, and said in an interview with the New York Times that running for Congress is “definitely a possibility,” noting that he is considering following in his family’s political footsteps. In an email to his supporters, Schlossberg, a Democrat, said that his election campaign will officially launch within the next few days.
Representative Jerry Nadler, who is serving his seventeenth term in Congress, confirmed that he will not run for re-election next year, noting to the New York Times that a younger Democratic lawmaker in his seat “maybe he can do better, and maybe he can help us more.”
Regain influence
Schlossberg, a political analyst and writer whose work has been published in media outlets such as The Washington Post and Politico magazine, joins a large group of candidates already competing for the 12th Congressional District seat, which includes the Upper West Side, Upper East Side, and Midtown in Manhattan.
Schlossberg’s decision to run comes at a time when Democrats hope to regain control of the House of Representatives in the 2026 midterm elections, thus regaining a measure of the legislative influence they currently lack in opposing Republican President Donald Trump’s agenda.
The young Democrat has gained a large following on social media with his frequent posts addressing national issues, including targeting his mother’s cousin, Secretary of Health Robert Kennedy Jr.
Last month, Schlossberg posted on Instagram a picture of a Halloween costume, in reference to Kennedy’s message, “Make America Healthy Again,” and described it as including eliminating diseases such as measles.
Schlossberg met with former Democratic President Joe Biden on several occasions, in the presence of his mother.
A meteoric rise
The New York Times quoted Schlossberg as saying: “There is nothing our party cannot do to address the cost of living, corruption, and the constitutional crisis we are experiencing,” adding: “But without control of Congress, there is almost nothing we can do.”
Schlossberg’s entry into congressional politics comes on the heels of the meteoric rise of another young New Yorker, Zahran Mamdani, 34, a member of the House of Representatives who was elected mayor of New York City last week. “With them.” About the Guardian
Comedic situations
Jack Schlossberg, the grandson of former US President John F. Kennedy, has drawn attention on social media with his comedic stances and the satirical videos he posts of figures such as the US First Lady, Melania Trump. Initial reports indicate the possibility of the emergence of a broad Democratic segment during next year’s House of Representatives elections, including progressive activists and perhaps local elected officials, although no major announcements have been made yet.
The open race for Democratic Rep. Jerry Nadler’s seat in Manhattan is expected to attract national attention and major donors, and the contest will actually be shaped as a test of the Democratic Party’s strength in one of its most loyal constituencies.
