UAE University discusses ways to enhance its pioneering role in education and scientific research

Al Ain, November 14 / WAM / The United Arab Emirates University held an “Academic Leadership Retreat” in the presence of His Excellency Zaki Anwar Nusseibeh, Cultural Advisor to His Highness the President of the State, Supreme President of the University, and His Excellency Dr. Ahmed Ali Al Raisi, University President, in addition to academic and administrative leaders and faculty members.
Ways to enhance institutional and academic performance and accelerate progress in the fields of education, research and innovation were discussed, in light of the rapid global transformations in technology and the knowledge economy.
In his speech during the meeting, His Excellency Zaki Anwar Nusseibeh stressed that the academic leaders’ retreat represents an opportunity to exchange visions and ideas about strengthening the university’s role in creating and anticipating ways of future development in order to enhance its position as a leading institution in academic excellence and scientific research in the country and the region.
He added that the UAE University is a leading national institution, as it is a tributary of academic excellence and scientific research, and a driving force for preparing generations capable of contributing to building a safe and sustainable society and an economy based on knowledge and creativity.
His Excellency pointed out that the university, during its journey spanning five decades, has become a leading research university with increasing regional and international influence, as it today offers 53 bachelor’s programs and 71 graduate programs, all accredited by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, while the percentage of qualified academic programs that have received international accreditation has exceeded 90%, and it is expected to reach 100% by 2026.
He stressed the importance of developing the scientific research system and strengthening its connection to national priorities in the fields of water, renewable energy, health sciences and digital transformation, noting that researchers at the university published in 2024 more than 3,000 scientific research indexed in the “Scopes” database, more than 70% of which were published in journals classified within the first category (Q1), and this is an achievement that reflects the university’s distinction globally.
His Excellency Zaki Nusseibeh said that these results are the result of strategic partnerships with governmental, industrial and academic institutions inside and outside the country, enabling the research results to be transformed into practical applications and opportunities for innovations.
He stressed that the academic, administrative and student staff are the foundation of the university’s strength and distinction, indicating that this meeting embodies the spirit of teamwork and a shared vision towards a more innovative and sustainable future.
The meeting touched on a number of topics, such as digital transformation and artificial intelligence in education, enhancing the university’s reputation, supporting talent and community participation, research and innovation for national influence and achieving global leadership, developing students’ skills and raising their readiness for the labor market and entrepreneurship.
