Irrigation continues campaigns to remove encroachments on the course of the Nile River in the Rosetta branch

Dr. Hani Sweilem, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, received a report from Engineer Hossam Taher, Head of the Nile River Development and Protection Sector and its two branches, regarding the position of the intensive removal campaigns carried out by the Ministry to remove encroachments on the Rosetta Branch, within the framework of the "National Project to Control the Nile"

 

The report indicated that since November 10, 2025 to date, the removal of “164” buildings has been carried out. Encroachment on the Rashid Branch for cases of the urgent phase of the first priority, which included violating buildings and backfilling works inside the river’s watercourse, in implementation of the legal procedures issued at the time regarding these violations, and in coordination with the concerned authorities to ensure that the removals are carried out in an orderly and safe manner.

 

 

Dr. Sweilem directed to continue carrying out the work of removing encroachments during the coming days with all determination along the course of the Nile and its branches, in order to preserve the Nile River, the lifeline and the lives of citizens, with continued follow-up from the Nile Protection Departments to nip any encroachment attempts in the bud. He also directed to quickly remove the demolition products from the waterway and remove the foundations of these violating buildings to prevent obstruction to the water flow in the river’s course.

Dr. Sweilem stated that modern technology and satellite images are being used to determine the locations of violations occurring within the waterway, and the process of experimental use of the spatial variables system has also begun, which will enable the Ministry’s agencies to monitor any violations occurring on the waterways in a way that enables them to be dealt with in the beginning.

 

He added that the launch of this important national project and the implementation of extensive removal work aim to restore the drainage capacity of the river, especially the Rosetta branch, which contributes to enhancing the water system’s ability to confront emergencies, meet citizens’ water needs, and deal with floods. He pointed out that the river’s drainage lands are an integral part of the natural course and floodplain of the Nile, and are naturally and repeatedly subject to flooding when levels rise or water flows increase, stressing that The continued encroachments by some individuals on the river’s supply lands harm the delivery of water to tens of millions of citizens and farmers in the delta regions, and expose the encroachers themselves to danger.

 

The Minister also expressed his appreciation to the workers in the sector of protecting and developing the Nile River and its two branches, the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Local Development, and the governors for their efforts and joint coordination with the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation in implementing the removal work with all determination and efficiency.

 

It is worth noting that the components of the "National Nile Control Project" It includes implementing removal campaigns to restore the river’s drainage capacity, producing modern digital maps of the bottom and sides of the Nile River and its two branches, raising and documenting the river’s offering lands and public properties, in addition to using modern technology such as satellite images, aerial photography and digital applications to accurately inventory and determine the locations of encroachments, and ensuring compliance with the requirements issued by the Ministry regarding ongoing work on both sides of the river, while implementing development work for the Corniche and the walkway in a way that does not negatively affect the water sector of the Nile River.
