Lebanon’s Foreign Minister: Our people’s ambition is to live together in a country where there are no weapons except legitimate ones… and no decision-making except the state

Youssef Raji, the Lebanese Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, affirmed that “there is no danger to any sect in Lebanon, and that the aspiration of the Lebanese people of all sects is to live together in a normal country in which there are no weapons except legitimate weapons, and in which there is no decision except the Lebanese state and no external interference in its affairs, so that its children live in peace and everyone is under the law.”
This came during a meeting with “Raji” today. Friday in Beirut, with his Hungarian counterpart, Peter Szijjártó, followed by expanded talks, in the presence of Hungarian Ambassador Ferenc Šilaj and the accompanying delegation, which discussed ways to deepen bilateral cooperation on issues of common interest between the two countries, according to the National News Agency in Lebanon.
The Lebanese Foreign Minister called on Hungary to assist, in cooperation with the international community, in exerting pressure on Israel to stop its daily attacks on Lebanon, withdraw from the occupied territories, and release Prisoners… stressing the importance of Budapest, through its position in the European Union, standing alongside Lebanon to help resolve the issue of displaced Syrians, and to persuade member states of the Union to provide the necessary assistance to secure their return to their country.
For his part, the Hungarian Foreign Minister stressed that his country will continue to support Lebanon, considering that its stability is a basic condition for peace and stability in the Middle East… He also pledged to “help resolve the issue of displaced persons.” The Syrians… calling for the financial aid allocated to them in Lebanon to be directed towards the reconstruction of Syria to accelerate their return, stressing the need to reduce the burden on Lebanon to enable it to implement the reforms necessary for its economic stability.
During a joint press conference following the meeting, the Lebanese Foreign Minister stressed the importance of Hungary’s continued contribution to strengthening the capabilities of the Lebanese army to enable it to carry out its full tasks after the end of the “UNIFIL” mandate, in a way that guarantees security on all Lebanese territory… as well. He expressed his appreciation for the Hungarian cultural initiatives in Lebanon, especially the restoration of 64 ancient churches.
For his part, the Hungarian minister announced that his country will contribute, through the European Union, to financing the re-arming of the Lebanese army at a value of one and a half million euros, stressing that strengthening the capabilities of the Lebanese Armed Forces is the only way to support the stability of the Lebanese state and ensure progress in implementing the government’s plan to disarm Hezbollah, and maintain the ceasefire with Israel and make it for the longest possible period to prevent any attacks. Military or the outbreak of new wars in this region.
