Dubai Electricity reviews its efforts to build a knowledge economy

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority is participating in the tenth session of the “Knowledge Summit”, held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, may God protect him, and organized by the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation and the United Nations Development Programme, under the slogan “Knowledge Markets: Developing Sustainable Societies”, on November 19 and 20, at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

Managing Director and CEO of the Authority, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, said: “We support the vision of the wise leadership to make the Emirate of Dubai the city of the future and strengthen its position as a global pole based on the knowledge economy. We at the Authority believe that innovation, science, and knowledge are pillars that elevate human value, and are an essential foundation for empowering national expertise and providing them with the necessary tools to contribute effectively to creating a sustainable future. The Knowledge Summit constitutes a global knowledge event to highlight efforts to advance the knowledge process and exchange ideas about the future of the knowledge economy, to advance individuals and societies.

During the exhibition held on the sidelines of the “Knowledge Summit,” the Authority will showcase its most prominent projects and initiatives aimed at supporting sustainability, innovation, and building a knowledge-based society and economy, most notably the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the largest solar energy park in one location in the world, according to the independent producer model.

The complex’s current production capacity is 3,860 megawatts, making clean energy about 21.5% of the authority’s total energy production capacity, and it will reach more than 8,000 megawatts by 2030 (the original plan is 5,000 megawatts), which will contribute to reducing carbon emissions by 8.5 million tons annually (the original plan is 6.5 million tons annually).

During the exhibition, the Authority is also focusing on its research and development center, which enhances Dubai’s position as a global center for research and development in the field of solar energy, smart grids, energy and water efficiency, and capacity building in these sectors.
