"Trends" And experts "CSIS" They discuss the outcomes of the AI dialogue

Abu Dhabi, November 16, 2017 – The Trends Center for Research and Consultation in Abu Dhabi held a special session with a high-ranking delegation from the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), to discuss research cooperation between the two sides, discuss the outcomes of the second “Trends” dialogue on artificial intelligence, and coordinate to organize the third edition of the dialogue in Washington, DC.
The session came after the conclusion of the second dialogue, which was held under the title “Technological Diplomacy in the Middle East and North Africa,” with broad participation from CSIS and leading international bodies such as Google and Open AI.
The dialogue, which was organized in partnership with the Cybersecurity Council, was an important platform that confirmed that artificial intelligence has become a strategic axis that is reshaping the international balance of power, which reinforces the need to develop cooperation between Trends and CSIS in this accelerating field.
The two sides discussed the most prominent results of the dialogue and its insights into the strategic transformations led by artificial intelligence technologies, and exchanged views on employing these outputs in formulating joint research programs and enhancing mutual understanding of the challenges that technology poses to regional security, foreign policy, and digital governance.
Three senior researchers at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) participated in the meeting: Mona Yacoubian, Director of the Middle East Program, Henrietta Levin, Senior Fellow, and Will Todman, Head of the Department of Geopolitical and Foreign Policy Studies and Senior Fellow in the Middle East Program.
The meeting reviewed the important role played by experts from the American side during the dialogue sessions, whether in providing in-depth insights into artificial intelligence, or in supporting bridges of communication between experts from the two institutions, in addition to discussing the possibility of organizing the third dialogue on artificial intelligence and technological diplomacy in Washington during the next year, to be an expanded platform that brings together an elite group of the most prominent American think tanks and their counterparts in the Middle East region.
The two sides stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation between research institutions in the region and the United States, and developing a common understanding of the challenges associated with artificial intelligence, technology, cybersecurity, and geopolitical transformations.
