Abu Dhabi hosts the third global conference of the Emirates Council for Sharia Fatwa on December 15

Abu Dhabi, November 16, 2017 – Under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, “Mother of the Emirates”, President of the General Women’s Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, the Emirates Council for Sharia Fatwa announced the organization of the Council’s third global conference under the title: “The Family in the Context of Jurisprudence of Reality: A National Identity and a Cohesive Society,” on December 15 and 16 in the capital, Abu Dhabi.

The organization of this conference comes in line with the “Year of Community 2025” initiative in the UAE, and in line with the announcement of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, may God protect him, that the year 2026 will be the Year of the Family.

His Excellency Sheikh Abdullah bin Bayyah extended his sincere thanks and gratitude to Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, “Mother of the Emirates,” for her sponsorship of this conference, which will have a major role in encouraging scientific research and deepening consideration of the legal dealings with the “family,” which constitutes the essential nucleus of society.

He stressed that choosing this topic stems from the Council’s keenness to explore priority national initiatives and present them for solid scientific research.

The conference aims to achieve a number of goals, including keeping pace with the latest legislative updates in personal status laws and understanding their national and social dimensions, activating the tools of civilized jurisprudence within fatwa institutions to deal positively with family developments in their diverse contexts, and enhancing institutional integration between the Fatwa Council and national and international bodies concerned with family affairs, by formulating specific initiatives and pioneering projects that preserve the family and ensure its stability, in addition to highlighting the efforts of the UAE in empowering family and fatwa institutions and developing strategies that accommodate reality jurisprudence. To maintain family cohesion and community cohesion.

Over two days, the conference is expected to witness the participation of about 328 specialists and representatives from 57 different entities, and the presence of representatives of ministries and bodies concerned with family affairs and its components, in addition to fatwa institutions from various countries of the world, and an elite group of scholars, researchers, university professors, and graduate students.

The conference is also attended by strategic partners and representatives of multiple media platforms, and receives wide media coverage estimated to include more than 500 media outlets.

The scientific program of the conference includes the presentation of 46 research papers, in addition to 14 opening speeches and 23 keynote speeches delivered by experts and leading figures in the field.

The scientific program of the conference includes an official opening session followed by five specialized sessions that address aspects of family issues in contemporary reality. The topics presented discuss concepts and approaches for integrating the jurisprudence of reality into the family fatwa system, and ways to achieve family stability based on affection and mercy in light of scientific developments and modern human values, in addition to reviewing contemporary fatwa opinions regarding them.

The sessions also review the impact of rapid changes in the digital field and artificial intelligence technologies on the reality of the family and its members, and the challenges and opportunities this poses.

The conference discusses pioneering models and global experiences in empowering the family and consolidating its cohesion, and its program concludes with a session to review the national efforts and pioneering institutional experiences that the UAE has devoted to the sake of a decent Emirati family and a strong, cohesive society, in line with the vision of the wise leadership in enhancing the quality of life and preserving national identity through a stable family and a cohesive society.
