The Supreme Committee for Consumer Protection reviews its efforts to monitor markets and control prices

Abu Dhabi, November 16 / WAM / The Supreme Committee for Consumer Protection, headed by His Excellency Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy and Tourism, held its second meeting for the year 2025, in the presence of representatives of the committee’s member agencies.

During the meeting, the committee reviewed the most prominent efforts and achievements achieved in terms of developing the legislative and regulatory environment, providing a safe and fair consumer environment in the country’s markets, enhancing the protection of consumer rights, and ensuring price stability in accordance with international best practices, in a way that supports the growth and sustainability of the national economy.

His Excellency Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri stressed that the UAE, thanks to the directives of its wise leadership, has paid great attention to developing policies and legislation to enhance the protection of consumer rights, establish the principles of transparency and fair competition in the markets, and support the building of a flexible and sustainable economic system, indicating that the country is keen to provide a safe and stable consumer environment, which consolidates the UAE’s position as a global leader in quality of life and competitiveness of the business environment, and supports the objectives of the “We Are the UAE 2031” vision. In building a diverse and sustainable knowledge economy.

His Excellency added that the meeting focused on developing specific national initiatives concerned with strengthening market supervision, monitoring and regulating price movements, and combating and preventing practices harmful to the consumer, in accordance with the highest standards of transparency, justice and safety, as we place among our priorities achieving a balance between the interests of consumers, suppliers and suppliers, enhancing confidence in local markets, and opening channels of communication with the consumer directly to ensure an effective response to various complaints and inquiries.

The economic development departments in the emirates, in coordination with the Ministry of Economy and Tourism, continue their intensive efforts to monitor markets, control prices, and combat counterfeit and adulterated goods.

During the first half of 2025, local departments carried out more than 76,500 inspection tours in various markets, resulting in 4,908 violations, within the framework of the integrated partnership between the Ministry and local authorities to protect consumers and enhance market integrity.

The committee reviewed the most prominent results and indicators of the Ministry of Economy and Tourism’s ongoing efforts aimed at strengthening oversight and follow-up of the country’s markets, the most prominent of which is the receipt of 2,297 complaints from the beginning of the year 2025 until the beginning of this November, while the number of recall requests for goods that do not conform to specifications reached 79 requests, covering 309,484 goods during the first nine months of the current year.

The committee discussed efforts to educate consumers and customers about the various methods of fraud and electronic phishing, and members were briefed on the procedures applied by the regulatory authorities in the country, and the new mechanisms for early detection of electronic fraud attempts and achieving speed of response by employing artificial intelligence techniques, in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior, Dubai Police, the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, the economic development departments, and the competent federal and local authorities in the country.

The meeting witnessed the presentation of guidelines for electronic food delivery platforms in the Emirate of Dubai to enhance competitiveness and fair trade, encourage responsible business behavior, and attract more investments to this vital sector.

The committee called on consumers to communicate directly with the relevant regulatory authorities, and to share experiences, complaints and inquiries through the official website and smart application of the Ministry of Economy and Tourism, in order to consolidate the role of the Ministry as a reliable legislative and regulatory body in the country, by spreading awareness of consumers’ rights and obligations, and ensuring the application of best practices in dealing with complaints and observations.
