The Arab League launches an initiative for the future to support scientific research in Arab countries

The General Secretariat of the League of Arab States launched today (Monday) the Solidarity for the Future Initiative to support scientific research in Arab countries affected by conflicts under the slogan “Scientific research does not wait.”
He participated in the initiative’s launch ceremony The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research in the Republic of Sudan, the Minister of Education and Scientific Research in the Syrian Arab Republic, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research in the Republic of Yemen, the National Committee for Education, Culture and Science of the Palestine Liberation Organization and the Academy of Scientific Research in Egypt. The initiative is an integrated, strategic humanitarian project that aims to support researchers and research and academic institutions in areas affected by conflicts and rehabilitate them in a way that ensures the continuity of scientific contributions, with the aim of recovery and rebuilding.
The initiative aims to qualify and support researchers in areas affected by crises and conflicts, rehabilitate and rebuild research centers affected by conflicts, facilitate access to global research resources through partnerships with academic publishers and research institutions, and enhance international cooperation between researchers in countries affected by conflicts and their counterparts from other countries.
It also aims to stimulate applied scientific research that focuses on challenges resulting from crises such as food security, public health, and reconstruction, and to build a database for researchers and research centers in countries affected by conflicts, identify their requirements, and link them to support opportunities. The General Secretariat of the League of Arab States stressed that investing in science, knowledge and scientific research is one of the most important ways of sustainable recovery, as science is not limited to knowledge only, but rather is a tool for building national capabilities and developing realistic solutions to the economic and social challenges facing countries emerging from conflict.
This came in a speech by the General Secretariat, which was delivered by Minister Commissioner Maysaa Hadmi, Director of the Department of Health and Humanitarian Aid. Hudmi said that this pioneering initiative comes at a time when our world is witnessing increasing challenges, especially countries affected by conflicts and protracted conflicts, with her hopes that this initiative will contribute to rebuilding trust and hope and confirming that our common future is based on cooperation and solidarity, not isolation and division. Solidarity today is no longer an option but has become a necessity for a more stable, just and humane future.
She added that scientific research is the basis for building nations and shaping their future, as it is the main engine for sustainable development and the most effective means of confronting the economic and social challenges that our Arab societies are going through, and investing in scientific research means investing in people and their ability to innovate, solve problems, and build a knowledge economy that enables countries to rise and develop, regardless of the difficulties.
She continued: “In a world witnessing rapid changes and intertwined challenges, from economic crises to climate change and conflicts, it is no longer possible to rely on traditional solutions. Rather, it has become necessary to rely on scientific research as a tool for planning and decision-making and as a means of understanding reality and anticipating the future. In countries affected by conflicts, scientific research gains double importance because it represents a bridge towards recovery and rebuilding. Science is able to find practical solutions for reconstruction, manage resources efficiently, restore education, and rebuild heads.” Human capital, which forms the basis of all development.
She pointed out that the “Solidarity for the Future” initiative It comes as a humanitarian and development initiative at the same time that embodies the spirit of cooperation and shared responsibility towards countries and societies affected by wars and conflicts. It is also a call to rethink the concept of humanitarian support so that it is not limited to building people only, but also strengthening institutions and enabling communities to advance their own capabilities.
She stated that this initiative confirms that solidarity is not a slogan, but rather an approach to action and investment in the future based on partnership and integration between countries, international and regional organizations, the private sector and civil society. It is a call to hope and a message to build confidence among peoples and a commitment to responsibility towards humanity. She pointed out that experiences have proven that scientific research and innovation can be a real bridge between relief and development, and that supporting researchers, universities and think tanks in these countries contributes to rebuilding humanity before architecture.
She continued that the League of Arab States worked to advance scientific and technological research efforts in the Arab countries, through the Arab Strategy for Scientific Research, Technology and Innovation, in cooperation with the Union of Scientific Research Councils, the Union of Arab Universities, and ALECSO, to support Arab researchers and scientists by providing an encouraging environment for creativity, stimulating investment in scientific research and innovation, and to enhance integration between scientific research and the requirements of development and peace in a way that contributes to achieving the goals of the "initiative. Solidarity for the future.
She highlighted that the League of Arab States places support for scientific research and education at the core of its priorities and vision for development and peace, recognizing that science is the shortest path to recovery and solidarity is the bridge by which we cross to the future. The League affirms its commitment to participate in the implementation of this initiative, and to work with partners and relevant organizations in coordinating efforts, exchanging experiences, and transforming this vision into a tangible reality that reflects positively on the lives of the people of our Arab nation.
