Sharjah highlights its global cultural heritage at ICOM Dubai 2025

Dubai, 18 November / WAM / Sharjah demonstrated its cultural status at the International Council of Museums (ICOM) Dubai 2025 conference through the unified participation of the Sharjah Museums Authority, in cooperation with the Sharjah Arts Foundation and the Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, during which it demonstrated the depth of the emirate’s cultural heritage and its position in the fields of history, heritage, arts and museum education. The joint platform presented an integrated model that reflects Sharjah’s cultural presence locally and internationally, and highlights it as a destination that combines authenticity and innovation.

The Sharjah platform showcased an integrated sensory experience under the slogan “Authenticity, Era, Diversity.” It highlighted museums, heritage landmarks, and community initiatives, highlighted cultural diversity and the authentic Emirati identity, and linked the past to the present by blending history with creativity and knowledge.

The “Discover Sharjah” exhibition included experiences that reflect the emirate’s connection with the sea and traditional life, and introduced visitors to elements of heritage such as marine gluttons, the painting “Khor Fakkan” by Abdul Qader Al Rais, coral stone, the scents of herbs, and dates, the symbol of Emirati hospitality, embodying the depth of heritage and the richness of cultural heritage.

The platform also highlighted prominent milestones, including the establishment of pioneering museums such as the Sharjah Museum of Antiquities, Arts and Calligraphy, and the Sharjah Biennial as the largest artistic event in the region. It introduced the public to the award-winning “Sawa” program for qualifying museum cadres, and the emirate’s efforts to restore historical buildings and transform them into museums and exhibition spaces, and enhance the role of museums in learning and community creativity.

Participation confirms Sharjah’s position as a global destination for arts, culture and heritage, consistent with its record as the Capital of Arab and Islamic Culture and the World Book Capital.
