Sharjah Heritage Institute concludes an initiative "Activating heritage areas" In Khor Fakkan


Sharjah, January 10, 2017 (WAM) – Yesterday, the Sharjah Institute for Heritage concluded the activities of the “Activating Heritage Areas” initiative in the city of Khor Fakkan, where the Sidra Heritage Neighborhood formed the final station of the program, amid a public presence and remarkable community interaction that reflected the community’s awareness of the importance of preserving cultural heritage and enhancing its presence in the community scene.
The event was held in a cultural and social atmosphere that embodied the authenticity of the Emirati heritage, in the presence of Abdullah Muhammad Salem Al Naqbi, Director of the Sharjah Heritage Institute – Khor Fakkan Branch, and Engineer Ali Makhlouf, Member of the Municipal Council of the City of Khor Fakkan, along with a number of officials and those interested in cultural and heritage affairs.
The initiative, which is rich in cultural, artistic and heritage activities, included folk arts performances, poetry and theatrical pieces inspired by popular heritage, in addition to traditional games and interactive programs that revived ancestral practices, as well as a specialized session on field collection and its role in documenting local heritage.
It also witnessed an exhibition of classic cars and distinguished participation from productive families and government departments in Khor Fakkan in support of traditional crafts and enhancing community partnership, in addition to organizing interactive competitions and displays of popular games with the participation of the Arab Heritage Center – Events and Activities Department and the Environment and Natural Reserves Authority.
The conclusion of the program embodied the vision of the Sharjah Institute for Heritage in reviving the national heritage using contemporary methods, strengthening the connection of society, especially emerging generations, with their cultural heritage, and consolidating its presence in societal memory as an authentic element of national identity.
