The UAE participates in the meetings of the International Federation of Accountants Council

Dubai, November 20 / WAM / The UAE, represented by the Emirates Association of Accountants and Auditors (EAAA), participated in the meetings of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC Council) as a full member.
The Assembly voted on the decisions adopted by the Union during its 2025 regular meeting, which was held recently in the Mexican capital, Mexico City.
His Excellency Saif Mohammed bin Abed Al Muhairi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Association of Accountants and Auditors, said: “This vote represents a historic achievement for the Association and for the profession in the UAE, as it reflects the growing international recognition of our association’s role as an effective professional representative in the global accounting system through actual participation in international decision-making within an organization that includes more than 180 professional bodies around the world. It also confirms the country’s commitment to contributing to the development of the profession at the regional and international levels.”
Al Muhairi added, “The vote to grant the UAE full membership in the Council meetings reflects the extent of interest of various organizations in the Emirates Society of Accountants, as many associations have expressed their interest in cooperating with our association, concluding cooperation agreements, and organizing joint events in the UAE, which enhances our role in the professional community locally, regionally, and internationally, and thus highlights the importance of the association’s role before government agencies in the country.”
For his part, Abdul Rahman Al Zarouni, a member of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Society of Accountants and Auditors, who represented the Society in the meetings of the Council of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC), said: “The presence of the UAE as a full member in the meetings of the Council of the International Federation of Accountants represents a milestone in the path of the profession at the state level and evidence of international recognition of the advanced professional role played by the Emirates Society of Accountants and Auditors. I was honored to represent the Society in this global event, which is considered one of the most important decision-making stations in the international accounting system as it brings together the most professional bodies.” influence around the world.”
Al Zarouni added, “The discussions and decisions adopted by the Council, including the new five-year plan, embody a major transformation phase that focuses on promoting digital transformation, developing vocational education, supporting young talents, and raising the quality of standards and their global application. These are priorities that are consistent with the vision of the UAE and its direction towards building a solid professional system with a regional and international impact. The association’s participation at this level enhances the UAE’s presence in the global profession arena, opens broader horizons for cooperation with international bodies, and consolidates the country’s position as a leading center for developing the accounting and auditing profession in the region.”
For her part, Lee White, President of the International Federation of Accountants, stressed during his opening speech the importance of the global role played by the Federation in representing the accounting profession and defending its interests at the level of decision-makers in governments and international organizations, noting that the Federation continues to strengthen the position of the profession as an influential force in supporting economic growth and good governance, noting the importance of frequent field visits by members of the Federation to strengthen relations with National Societies.
Lee White reviewed the most prominent new initiatives launched by the Federation and highlighted the expansion of cooperation with multilateral organizations and the donor community through technical support programs and institutional capacity building. He explained that the Federation is implementing a comprehensive institutional transformation program that focuses on three axes: individuals, processes, and technology, and will devote the year 2026 to consolidating a unified organizational culture and ensuring the sustainability of the results of the transformation.
The Board of Directors of the International Federation of Accountants approved the Federation’s new strategic plan, which is the first five-year plan directly linked to the concept of value provided to members (Member Value Proposition) and focuses on supporting digital transformation, enhancing education, attracting young talent, raising the quality of standards and implementing them globally, and deepening regional partnerships.
He explained that the plan will be translated into detailed annual business plans directly linked to budgets and performance indicators of executive employees
The decisions taken by the Council included the election of members of the Board of Directors of the International Federation of Accountants, where appointments and re-appointments were approved according to the recommendation of the Nominations Committee, and the appointment of a new Nominations Committee, where new and renewed members of the Committee for the period 2025-2027 were approved.
