The project provides for the opening of 34 exploration concessions in the waters of the Gulf of Mexico, which Trump changed its name to "Gulf of America"off the coast of California and along the coast of northern Alaska, in a virgin area where no exploration operations had taken place before.
A total area of more than 500 million hectares will become available for the oil and gas sector, an area equal to the Amazon region.
US Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum praised the plan, stressing that it "By moving forward with the development of a strong, forward-looking concession plan, we will ensure that America’s offshore oil sector remains strong, our workers maintain jobs, and our nation remains dominant in the energy sector for decades to come.".
