 The spokesman for the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) confirmed that the greatest concern now is not only related to those who were able to flee from El Fasher, but also those who chose to remain inside it.

He said, “The task of reaching the citizens in El Fasher is very difficult; Therefore, we have great concern for the citizens who chose to remain there, as humanitarian access to the city is a very difficult task in light of the continuing security risks.”

 

He added that the United Nations teams are still unable to fully reach El Fasher, which prevents a direct assessment of the suffering of the residents and hearing their testimonies.

 

He pointed out that the United Nations missions reached areas inside Darfur and revealed profound testimonies. The cruelty of those displaced from El Fasher, noting that those who fled after bitter experiences and great losses are currently receiving limited aid in relatively safer areas.

 

He stressed that the humanitarian situation in the region is deteriorating, and that the need to strengthen aid has become unprecedentedly urgent. The International Organization for Migration announced, earlier today, that the number of displaced people from the city of El Fasher and its surrounding areas has exceeded 100,000 people since the end of last October.
