The UAE is a pioneering civilizational model that combines authenticity and modernity

Ras Al Khaimah, November 22nd / WAM / The UAE embodies an inspiring civilizational model based on achieving a balance between authenticity and modernity, a translation of the vision of its wise leadership in building a country that preserves its roots, and believes that true progress is only achieved through the integration of values with development.
The development experience in the UAE is considered one of the most prominent global experiences based on combining originality rooted in national values and identity, and modernity open to the world, which was clearly demonstrated through major events such as Expo 2020 Dubai, and the presence of civilized, cultural and urban monuments such as the Louvre Abu Dhabi, Burj Khalifa, and Dubai Opera, in addition to heritage and cultural festivals, global educational and cultural projects, and modern social and cultural initiatives.
In this context, Fatima Al Mazrouei, an Emirati writer and writer and head of the Historical Archives Department at the National Archives and Library, confirmed that the UAE places the consolidation of belonging and pride in heritage, and the preservation of authentic values and customs at the heart of its development strategies, including the National Strategy for National Identity 2023-2031, and the UAE Cultural Strategy 2031, which embody the state’s vision of making Emirati culture and identity an effective element in Sustainable development process.
She noted the UAE’s keenness to integrate the concepts of national identity into educational curricula, which contributes to strengthening the connection of new generations with its history and authentic values, and consolidating national belonging in the souls of students from the early school stages.
Al Mazrouei said that initiatives such as the “Year of Community,” “Year of Heritage,” and “Year of Sustainability” reflect the UAE’s vision of building a balanced and cohesive society that is proud of its past, anticipates its future with confidence, and makes originality a pillar of modernity, and heritage a starting point for creativity.
She pointed to community initiatives such as the “Year of Reading,” “Year of Tolerance,” and “Year of Community,” which aim to consolidate the system of national values within a renewed civilizational vision that enhances the place of the human being at the heart of sustainable development.
She added that the empowerment of Emirati women constituted one of the most prominent features of the balance between authenticity and modernity, as the state succeeded in granting women leadership roles in various fields, while preserving their authentic social and cultural status that embodies the values of Emirati society and its unique identity.
She explained that balancing modernity and tradition is a difficult art that can only be mastered by a conscious society that realizes that progress does not mean abandoning originality, and that clinging to the past does not mean rejecting the present, but rather embodies a cultural awareness that balances solid roots and future aspirations.
Al Mazroui said that wisdom lies in the conscious selection of aspects of modernity, by adopting what benefits humans and contributes to developing their lives, such as modern science, technology, advanced educational methods, and constructive cultural openness, as tools that help advance and build a prosperous and sustainable future.
She added that the Emirati identity has always been open to others without losing its authenticity, and that is why we find that the Emirati society is a global society that embraces more than 200 nationalities living in peace and tolerance on one land, under laws that preserve rights and ensure mutual respect.
In turn, Hamdan Al Ameri, an expert in professional and social development, said that the UAE today represents a unique model in its ability to combine the depth of roots and the strength of ambition. Modernity is not a tradition, but rather the development of an authentic Emirati way of life that keeps pace with the future without losing its identity, and this is what we see in the policies that preserve the Arabic language, national identity, and traditional dress, in addition to investments in artificial intelligence, space, education, and clean energy.
He added that the UAE has witnessed in recent years a qualitative shift in various fields, including education, technology and infrastructure, and the Emirati society has begun to invest in modern-day tools with the aim of developing the nation and enhancing its competitiveness on the local and international arenas.
Al Ameri stressed that the UAE is striving to preserve its authenticity amid the momentum of modernity and civilizational development, thus achieving an admirable balance between adherence to heritage and openness to the renewed world.
He stressed that this balance embodies the unique Emirati vision, as Emirati society embraces ancient values and benefits from technological and social developments to enhance the process of sustainable development, in light of the fundamental and rapid changes witnessed in the modern world.
He explained that the modern identity in the Emirates combines a modern, open appearance with established local values, which reflects the country’s ability to balance modernity and authenticity.
