"Muslim sages" Strongly condemns the kidnapping of students and staff at a Catholic school in Nigeria

Abu Dhabi, 24 November / WAM / The Council of Muslim Elders, headed by His Eminence the Grand Imam, Professor Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Sheikh of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, condemned in the strongest terms the horrific kidnapping incident, which targeted St. Mary’s Catholic School in northwestern Nigeria, and resulted – according to what the Christian Association of Nigeria announced – in the kidnapping of more than 315 students, teachers and employees of the school.

The Council affirmed, in a statement, that targeting children and educational institutions is a heinous crime that contradicts the teachings of the true Islamic religion and all religions and divine laws, and violates the most basic moral and humanitarian values ​​and international laws and conventions that guarantee children their right to education and a safe life away from violence and intimidation.

The Council of Muslim Elders expressed its full solidarity with the families of the kidnapped students and teachers, calling for urgent and united international action to pressure the release of all the kidnapped, strengthen the protection of educational institutions, and ensure that such horrific crimes are not repeated, asking God Almighty to return all the kidnapped to their families safely, and to protect Nigeria and its people from all harm and evil.
