Under the directives of Khalid bin Mohammed bin Zayed, the Department of Energy announces the launch of… "Abu Dhabi Water and Energy Week" May 2026

ABU DHABI, 24 November / WAM / Under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Executive Council of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, the Department of Energy – Abu Dhabi announced the launch of the first edition of “Abu Dhabi Water and Energy Week”, during the period from 19 to 22 May 2026 at the ADNEC Center in Abu Dhabi.

The launch of this event comes within the efforts of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi to strengthen its position as a global center for innovating practical solutions in the water and energy sectors, and to support the water security system and the sustainability of energy networks, in preparation for the United Nations Water Conference 2026, and in continuation of the success achieved by the World Utilities Conference.

Abu Dhabi Water and Energy Week aims to unify efforts between entities in the government and private sectors, enhance cooperation and partnerships, and attract experts and decision-makers to anticipate the future of the water and energy sectors, in line with the UAE’s directions and national strategies in these two sectors until 2050.

The event contributes to creating practical solutions to the challenges facing the water system, developing advanced technologies by proposing and formulating supportive policies and encouraging strategic investments in this vital sector.

The event’s sessions address the role of digital systems, artificial intelligence, and smart infrastructure in enhancing the sustainability and resilience of the water and energy sector and providing solutions that anticipate the future.

On this occasion, His Excellency Dr. Abdullah Humaid Al Jarwan, Chairman of the Department of Energy – Abu Dhabi, said that based on the directives of His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Department of Energy – Abu Dhabi is organizing “Abu Dhabi Water and Energy Week” to enhance a supportive environment that enables the energy and water system and advances its journey towards a more sustainable and flexible future.

His Excellency added that the week highlights Abu Dhabi’s leadership in the fields of innovation and cooperation, and contributes to developing the necessary frameworks and solutions to enhance resource security, accelerate the pace of investment, and inspire future generations.

Abu Dhabi Water and Energy Week will continue to strengthen Abu Dhabi’s position as a leading destination for supporting innovation in the energy, water and technology sectors.

The event enjoys great support from the concerned authorities through strategic partnerships in the water and energy sectors, bringing together leading institutions such as the Mohammed bin Zayed Water Initiative, the Holding Company (ADQ), the Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (TAQA), and other national and international institutions.

Within the framework of the activities of Abu Dhabi Water and Energy Week, the Mohammed bin Zayed Water Initiative will hold its first summit dedicated to innovating solutions to the scarcity of water resources, which will constitute a global platform that brings together sector leaders, decision makers and an elite group of experts, to explore the latest technologies, financing mechanisms and partnerships aimed at developing innovative solutions to address the challenges of water scarcity.

The summit focuses in particular on technology, finance and investment, and enhancing cooperation between concerned parties, in addition to highlighting the role of youth and the innovation system in confronting water scarcity, which reflects the UAE’s contributions to enhancing international cooperation and unifying efforts to find appropriate solutions to this global challenge.

Through dialogue sessions that will bring together government agencies and regulatory institutions, Abu Dhabi Water and Energy Week will pave the way towards achieving further progress in the field of water security, in preparation for the United Nations Water Conference in December 2026.

The Abu Dhabi Water and Energy Week program focuses on translating strategic plans into practical applications on the ground through a series of high-level sessions held within five main events, including the World Utilities Conference, in partnership with TAQA, which discusses key topics including energy systems, water security, cooling, and energy demand in the urban environment, and the summit and dialogue sessions organized by the Department of Energy – Abu Dhabi, to enhance policy development efforts and prepare regulations supporting the sector, in addition to the summit hosted by the Mohammed Bin Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Initiative. Zayed Water, which attracts water sector experts and the global innovation community to explore new solutions to the challenges of water scarcity, a financial technology and investment summit, which seeks to explore promising opportunities in the energy and water sectors, in addition to an artificial intelligence and future technologies summit, which showcases the latest industrial innovations and their practical applications in the sector.

In light of expectations that global demand for energy will double and demand for water will rise by 40% by 2050, as a result of rapid population growth, urban sprawl, social and economic developments, in addition to the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence technologies, “Abu Dhabi Water and Energy Week” reflects the importance of unifying efforts in the energy, water and technology sectors, by exchanging visions and ideas on the importance of sustaining energy networks, strengthening the water security system, supporting digital transformation initiatives, and encouraging strategic investment.

“Abu Dhabi Water and Energy Week” will contribute to supporting the achievement of the goals of the comprehensive strategic framework for the energy and water sector until 2050, thus enhancing the readiness of the two sectors for the future locally, regionally and internationally, in line with the directions of the UAE Energy Strategy 2050, to ensure the sustainability of the national water security system.
