The European Parliament postpones a decision on freezing 4 million euros in far-right funds

The European Parliament has postponed a decision on whether to ask a former far-right group to return 4 million euros, until the results of the European Prosecution’s investigation into the alleged mismanagement of those funds are issued.

Politico magazine reported: In its edition of European affairs, the European Parliament Office, consisting of its President Roberta Mizzola and her fourteen deputies, is scheduled to approve this evening, Monday, the recommendation of the Secretary-General of Parliament to postpone the closing of the 2024 accounts of the “Identity and Democracy” bloc. Which no longer exists, according to a memorandum seen by POLITICO.

The European Parliament administration had discovered irregularities in public procurement and donations to the “Identity and Democracy” group, which previously included figures such as the leader of the extreme right in France, Marine Le Pen, and was estimated at 4.3 million euros during the period between 2019 and 2024, which prompted the European Public Prosecutor’s Office to open an investigation into the case.
