Announcing the award winners of the 8th edition of the Sharjah Film Platform


Sharjah, November 25 / WAM / The Sharjah Arts Foundation announced the winners of the awards for the eighth session of the “Sharjah Film Platform”, which was held between the 14th and 23rd of this November at the “Sarab Al Madina Cinema” and the “Vox Cinema” halls in “City Center Al Zahia”.
“Becoming a Guinea Fowl” (2024) by Rungano Nyoni won the award for Best Feature Film, “The Devil and the Bicycle” (2024) by Sharon Hakim for Best Short Narrative Film, “Walking in the Dark” (2024) by Kenshuk Sorgan won the award for Best Feature Documentary Film, while “The Morning Circle” (2025) by Basma Al-Sherif won the Best Short Documentary Film award.
The jury praised the winning feature films for presenting societal issues with critical visions and innovative artistic methods, emphasizing their distinction in presenting social realism in a distinctive visual formulation. As for the documentaries, they were distinguished by their depth of narrative and cinematic style, as the film “Morning Circle” dealt with the internal experience of the immigrant and revealed hidden violence, while “Walking in the Dark” shed light on the resilience of farmers’ widows, going beyond traditional methods.
The session witnessed the screening of 27 films from different regions and opened with the film “Bab” by Nayla Al Khaja, along with other prominent works and five short films produced by the “Short Film Grant.” The platform also allocated a section that celebrated the cinema of Jocelyn Saab through selected screenings and workshops.
It launched the “First Shows” program for university students and recent graduates in the Emirates to present their short films and participate in dialogue sessions, with the participation of students from several local universities.
