The Belgian Defense Minister stresses support for Kinshasa and discusses developing the military partnership

The Belgian Minister of Defense and Foreign Trade, Theo Franken, stressed during his first visit to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, his country’s full support for the Democratic Republic of the Congo in facing the security challenges in the east of the country, noting the Belgian government’s desire to increase its defense budget to enhance cooperation between the two countries.

 

The Deputy Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of the Congo in charge of defense, Guy Kabombo, explained that the goal of this visit is “to transform the common history between the Congo democracy and Belgium to a lever of cooperation, mutual trust and operational efficiency in the service of our two armies and regional stability.”

Kabombo indicated, as reported by the Congolese News Agency, that the Belgian minister’s visit comes in a sensitive security context, represented by the control of the “March 23” movement.
