المملكة: President of Integrity confirms the leadership’s firm commitment to combating corruption and holding its perpetrators accountable

Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority (Integrity) Mazen bin Ibrahim Al-Kahmous, Commitment Rational leadership – may God support it – is firm and steadfast in combating Corruption and holding its perpetrators accountable, and strengthening the Kingdom’s efforts in this field since the launch of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, which strengthened accountability and integrity within the governance system.
This came during the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s participation in the work of the Second Global Conference on Harnessing Data to Improve the Measurement of Corruption, which it jointly organizes with the Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority. "integrity" The United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), and the International Anti-Corruption Academy (IACA), during the period from 2 to 4 December at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City.
The conference witnessed broad participation from more than 100 countries and more than 22 several international organizations, including: the World Bank, and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), in addition to partner organizations, most notably: Transparency International, the International Monetary Fund, The United Nations Global Compact, the U4 Center, the Basel Governance Institute, IMD, GTI, TI, and other relevant bodies concerned with developing indicators for measuring corruption and promoting integrity globally.
The conference work was launched yesterday at the United Nations headquarters in New York City, with the participation of leaders of international bodies, government representatives, experts and specialists from various countries of the world, as part of continuing global efforts aimed at developing accurate methodologies for measuring corruption.
Developing corruption measurement initiatives
Al-Kahmous reviewed the Kingdom’s efforts. And the growing partnerships in developing initiatives to measure corruption, stressing that measuring the phenomenon accurately is a basis for formulating effective policies based on data, pointing to the Kingdom’s pioneering role in developing "Vienna Principles towards a global methodology for measuring corruption"And include them in the decisions of the Conference of States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption.
The activities of the first day included the launch of indicators to measure the effectiveness of anti-corruption efforts, and the launch of global data panels to display their results interactively, in addition to holding a high-level plenary session that discussed the role of measuring corruption in supporting international reforms, with the participation of representatives of the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, Transparency International, the Basel Institute, and the Business Group (B20).
The subsequent sessions dealt with regional and international experiences, and survey data, And the integrity of public procurement within the intersection of the public and private sectors.
A global methodology for measuring corruption
The holding of this conference represents an extension of a global path that began in 2021, when the Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority in the Kingdom, in cooperation with international organizations, began developing scientific indicators and methodologies to measure corruption rates.
In 2023, within the framework of the Global Initiative for Measuring Corruption Rates, the first session of the conference was held in Vienna, and resulted in the drafting of a document "Vienna Principles towards a global methodology for measuring corruption"which formed a pioneering reference framework that takes into account the different legal and political frameworks of countries, and focuses on the areas most vulnerable to corruption, especially in public procurement.
The Kingdom’s participation comes as a continuation of its efforts in leading global anti-corruption initiatives, including the initiative "Global integrity to measure corruption" Which was launched by the Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme.
Thus, this conference constitutes an advanced step towards building on these efforts, and an impetus towards developing more effective policies in measuring corruption, and consolidating the principles of transparency and integrity at the global level.
