Arab Cup.. Algeria begins the title defense campaign with a goalless draw with Sudan
Algeria began the campaign to defend the Arab Football Cup title with a scoreless draw with the Sudanese national team on Wednesday, after playing the entire second half with ten players after Adam Ounas was sent off, while Sudan’s substitute goalkeeper, Mohamed Al-Nour, excelled in defending his goal. The confrontation took place at Ahmed Bin Ali Stadium in the opening of the fourth group matches of the Arab Cup (Qatar 2025), with each team earning one point.
The Sudanese team failed to exploit the numerical deficiency in the Algerian team, which completed the match with ten players after Adam Ounas was sent off for receiving a second warning in the 45th minute.
The match was strong and even, amidst a large crowd, as the Algerian team pressed in search of a goal, but collided with the solidity of the Sudanese defense and behind him the brilliant goalkeeper Mohamed Al-Nour (Abuja), who participated in an emergency after the main goalkeeper, Munjed Al-Nil, was injured during the warm-up process before the start of the match.
The Algerian team continued its attempts during the first half, led by Adel Boulbena, Ben Dabke, Radwan Berkane, and Adam Ounas, before being expelled, but the cohesion of the Sudanese defense prevented the goal from conceding.
In the second half, the Sudanese team tried to exploit the numerical deficiency and threatened the Algerian goal with several dangerous chances, but did not succeed in translating them. Despite the numerical deficiency, the Algerian team did not surrender, but rather took the initiative to attack, but its attempts lacked the final touch.
The last minutes witnessed intense Sudanese pressure, as Abdel-Ruf Yaqoub missed the opportunity to achieve a goal in the 70th minute, while the Algerian defense continued to confront Sudanese attempts until the end of the match.
