Putin: Russia wants to end a war launched by the West against it

Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed that he is convinced that his American counterpart, Donald Trump, wants a quick end to the conflict in Ukraine, directing criticism at the Kiev authorities who seek to obstruct the achievement of a peaceful solution.

Putin said – in an interview with the “India Today” channel: Hindi, reported by “Russia Today” website, today, Thursday – “Russia wants to end the war launched by the West against it at the hands of Ukraine,” noting that the special military operation in Ukraine is not the beginning of the war, but rather an attempt to end it.

He explained that Russia has been trying to resolve the situation in Ukraine peacefully for eight years, adding that Vladimir Zelensky was declaring his pursuit of peace, but in the end he began to put the interests of extremist nationalist groups above the interests of the people. Ukraine, stressing that it is best for the authorities in Kiev to realize that negotiations are the best way to solve problems.

Putin pointed out that political and economic interests also play a role in Trump’s efforts to settle the conflict in Ukraine, stressing that Russia, by annexing the Crimean peninsula to it, was quick to help those who rejected the coup in Kiev, pointing out that Moscow will always protect its interests and its people. He also noted that his country did not need to annex the port of Sevastopol, as it was Russia anyway.

Putin stressed the need to find a way to ensure Ukraine’s security in a way that does not threaten Russia’s security, saying: “The Ukrainian authorities, by taking the decision to continue the conflict, have practically pushed themselves into an impasse.”

Regarding Russia’s goals, the president stressed that the issue “is not related to victory, but rather to protecting our interests and protecting the people.” He added: “The point is that Russia intends to protect its interests, protect its people who live there, its traditional values, the Russian language, etc.” Putin stressed that “Russia always protects its interests and its people.”

On the other hand, the Russian President said that the balance of power in the world is witnessing a change with the emergence of new centers of power, stressing that ensuring stability between countries constitutes a decisive basis for the progress of bilateral and international relations.

Putin stressed the extreme importance of stability in the main areas of Russian-Indian cooperation, noting that this stability helps the two countries achieve their common goals, adding that Russian companies India had established effective trade relations even before the Ukrainian crisis.

He pointed out that there are many promising areas for future cooperation between the two countries, including the field of artificial intelligence. He also pointed out that India has become one of the largest suppliers of petroleum products to Europe.

The Russian President stressed that cooperation between Russia and India in the field of energy is not subject to the influence of current developments in Ukraine, expressing his appreciation for India as a reliable defense partner for Russia, as the relationship is not limited only to sales but also includes participation in defense technology. Putin stressed that India remains a reliable partner and has a distinguished position for Russia in the field of defense and military-technical cooperation.

He said: “It seems that you are experts in this field, as if we were engaged in negotiations on military-technical cooperation.” If we delve into the details, India will emerge as one of our reliable and distinguished partners in this field.”

He also stressed that Russia’s sharing of defense technologies with India reflects the level of trust between the two countries and their people, saying: “We are not satisfied with selling technologies to India, but rather we share them, and this is a very rare thing in the field of military-technical cooperation. This reflects the level of trust between the two countries and their peoples.”

The Russian President also stressed that ensuring the stability of cooperation in key areas between Russia and India is of crucial importance and contributes to achieving the common goals of the two countries. Putin arrived today, Thursday, at the “Palam” base. Indian Airlines in New Delhi, at the beginning of a two-day state visit to India, where Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally received him at the stairs of the plane.

The leaders of the two countries met in the middle of the red carpet, where they warmly shook hands and hugged each other.

The Russian delegation that waited for the arrival of the head of state included, in particular, both Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, and the head of Rosneft. Igor Sechin, and the Russian ambassador to Delhi, Denis Alipov.

Putin, contrary to protocol and as a sign of special friendliness, took Modi’s private car, abandoning the official “Urus” car. Tomorrow, Friday, official Russian-Indian talks at the highest level will be held in New Delhi, which are expected to result in the approval of a large package of bilateral documents between the two governments, in addition to a series of trade agreements.

The Russian delegation accompanying President Vladimir Putin includes a high-level ministerial delegation and representatives of influential institutions, which reflects the comprehensive and strategic nature of the visit. The annual Russian-Indian summit is an established tradition between Moscow and New Delhi, as this meeting will be the twenty-third of its kind.
