Decisions of the Supreme Committee for Medical Liability and Patient Safety at its second meeting

The Supreme Committee for Medical Liability and Patient Safety issued a number of decisions and recommendations aimed at activating the Medical Liability and Patient Safety Law No. “13” For the year 2025 with the highest levels of efficiency and transparency. ‎

 

This came during the committee’s second meeting in the presence of the committee’s chairman, Dr. Hussein Khaled, who began the meeting by adopting the minutes of its previous meeting.

 

Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the committee’s official spokesman, said that during the meeting, the general framework was determined for nominating members of the medical and allied professions in the subcommittees charged with examining complaints, with an emphasis that these committees should be multidisciplinary to ensure technical consideration. And integrated management for each complaint separately.

 

«Abdul Ghaffar» added Work is currently underway to prepare approved informed consent forms according to each medical specialty, to be presented to Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population, in preparation for issuing ministerial decisions regarding them. He pointed out that the Supreme Committee discussed the report issued by one of the subcommittees, regarding the first complaint submitted to it, and approved the directions and observations necessary to enhance the quality of examination of future complaints.

 

Within the framework of organizing the mechanisms for receiving complaints, an agreement was made on the mechanisms for receiving complaints from all legally authorized parties, whether from the Public Prosecution or directly from the complainant or his legal representative, and the general framework and work mechanism of the committees were also agreed upon. Sub-committee, during the complaints debate, with an emphasis on speed of completion, technical accuracy, and adherence to legal deadlines.

 

The committee stressed the importance of launching intensive community awareness campaigns, parallel to educational programs directed at health care service providers, to introduce the rights and duties of each party under the new law, which contributes to reducing complaints and enhancing community confidence in the health system. ‎

In the context of developing the executive tools, the committee recommended quickly forming the Assistant Technical Secretariat to the Secretary-General, given the increasing pace of work and the volume of tasks assigned to the Supreme Committee, to ensure the presence of an integrated and dedicated team.

 

The Supreme Committee for Medical Liability and Patient Safety affirms its full commitment to protecting the rights of patients and health care providers alike, and looks forward to the cooperation of all concerned parties to make the new medical liability system a success, to the highest level.
