Crowning the winners of the Dubai Youth Performing Arts Festival Awards


DUBAI, 6 December / WAM / The Dubai Culture and Arts Authority crowned the winners of the Dubai Youth Performing Arts Festival Awards during the conclusion of its first edition, which aimed to support and empower young talents in the fields of theatre, music and folk arts and motivate them to continue their professional careers and produce quality works that enrich the local cultural scene and enhance Dubai’s position as a global center for the creative economy.
The historic Shindagha neighborhood witnessed the honoring ceremony in the presence of Dr. Salah Al Qassim, Advisor to Dubai Culture, Fatima Al Jallaf, Acting Director of the Performing Arts Department, and a number of artists, playwrights, and jury members who followed the final competitions, during which the participants presented theatrical and musical works and artistic paintings that reflected their passion and creativity.
The ceremony honoring theatrical works witnessed the play “Box of Matches” by the Al Ain Theater troupe winning four awards, including the best integrated theatrical work, the best integrated scenography, the best youth composition, and the best young actor, while the show “Al-Hawa Gharam” by the Dubai National Theater troupe won 3 awards, including the best youth direction, the best young actress, and the best promising talent.
The play “Ashes” by the Art Maze group also won two awards for the best promotional effort for theatrical presentation and innovation in performing arts, while the jury awarded its special award to the play The Night of Chekhov’s Murder and presented a special award to the artist Abdulaziz Al-Khamis in appreciation of his contribution to the design of the sound elements.
In the music category, Al-Hadi Jibril Muhammad won the award for best music fusion, Fares Al-Ali won the awards for best pianist and best emerging Emirati talent, Hamad Omar Al-Hadrami won the award for best young qanun player, Crescens Francisca Rodriguez won the award for best singer, Joseph Tamiya won the award for best professional qanun player, Amira Juma Rashid Al-Ali won the award for best multi-instrumental musician, Abrar won the award for best arranger and pianist, Yahya Nadi won the award for best professional singer, and Maria Masrani won the award for best. Pianist.
In the folk arts, the Youth Theater for the Arts troupe won first place, followed by the “Al-Yazwa” troupe, then the Dubai Folk Arts and Rowing Society. The jury stressed in its report the importance of training young talents, organizing an annual folk arts forum, creating an award for theatrical writing, and encouraging the re-presentation of winning works to increase the sustainability of production and support the theatrical sector.
The committee praised the role of heritage sites in hosting events and enhancing the connection between generations with local heritage.
Fatima Al-Jallaf stressed Dubai Culture’s keenness to empower youth and support the performing arts. She said that the festival contributes to discovering talents, developing their skills, and providing a platform for creative expression, which enhances the strength of the cultural and creative industries and enriches the artistic movement in Dubai. She noted that holding the event in the Shindagha neighborhood allowed participants to present innovative works that enhanced audience interaction.
