US Secretary of Defense defends drug boat strikes

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth defended the strikes targeting alleged drug cartel boats, saying, “US President Donald Trump has the authority to take military action “as he sees fit.” To defend the country.”

Hegseth, according to the Associated Press, on Sunday, rejected criticism of the strikes, which killed more than 80 people and now face intense scrutiny due to fears that they violate international law.

He stressed that the strikes were justified to protect Americans, and likened the war on drugs to the war on terrorism that followed the attacks of September 11, 2001.

Hegseth said, During his keynote address at the Reagan National Defense Forum: “If you work for a designated terrorist organization, and you bring drugs into this country on a boat, we will find you and we will drown you. No doubt about it. President Trump can and will take decisive military action as he sees fit to defend our nation’s interests. There is no doubt about that.”

Hegseth’s comments came after the Trump administration released its new national security strategy, which portrays European allies as weak and aims to reassert America’s dominance in the Western Hemisphere.
