Urgent.. Minister of Health: There is no interest in concealing any information related to the spread of any disease

Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population, held a press conference today, Sunday, to respond to the rumors circulating about respiratory viruses, confirming with scientific evidence that there is no spread of new or unknown respiratory viruses, and there is no truth at all to what is rumored about the spread of the Marburg virus in Egypt.

The minister explained that Egypt has an advanced smart surveillance system that includes 5,500 facilities that operate with an event-based surveillance system, with strict quarantine procedures and all outlets, noting that 424,000 circulating health signals were monitored, 90-95% of which were rumors and false information.

 He stressed, saying: “No country in the world, including Egypt, has an interest in concealing any information about diseases.”

Dr. Abdel Ghaffar revealed a usual increase in seasonal influenza activity at this time every year, with the dominance of the H1N1 strain, stressing that The safety and effectiveness of the seasonal influenza vaccine, especially for the most vulnerable groups.

Then, Dr. Amr Qandil, Deputy Minister of Health, reviewed a detailed scientific report on the types of respiratory viruses from 2019 until the 48th epidemiological week of 2025, with precise comparisons to positivity rates, to confirm that the current situation is completely in line with natural seasonality without any worrying deviations.

For his part, Dr. Nima Abed, the representative of the World Health Organization in Egypt, confirmed, The health situation is completely reassuring, praising the development of the Egyptian surveillance system and rapid response, and urging citizens to rely on official sources only.

Dr. Amira Idris, Professor of Pediatrics at Kasr Al-Aini, concluded by confirming that the situation is safe, directing the most important things to strengthen their children’s immunity with proper nutrition and adherence to preventive measures, while avoiding the use of antibiotics without medical advice.
